The reasons are that A:I have seen two reviews of it. One is five-star and the other is four-and-a-half star. B:Everyone on the boards here seems to really like it. But since I'm playing in the Age of Mortals, how much of the stuff there could I use with no or little work? |

The reasons are that A:I have seen two reviews of it. One is five-star and the other is four-and-a-half star. B:Everyone on the boards here seems to really like it. But since I'm playing in the Age of Mortals, how much of the stuff there could I use with no or little work? The master is a new base class which is suitable for all eras of play. Of the prestige classes included in the book, the chorister, minotaur marauder, gnomish tinker and handler are all era-independent, and there are some variants of established classes like the Knights of Solamnia and the assassin which could be useful. A huge part of the book is the geography section, which is admittedly not as immediately useful (given the changes post-Chaos War) but still a useful resource. You may or may not get much use from the chapter of personalities (NPC stat blocks from the War of the Lance era) and the details of the War itself, but it couldn't hurt. Add to that some new magic items, new spells, and a ton of other adventure hooks and nuggets of information about ruins, flying citadels, and mysterious locations... many people are buying this book and immediately starting a War of the Lance era campaign because they get so many ideas from it. I am sure it will inspire your Age of Mortals campaign, too, with a little bit of work. Cheers, Cam |
#3zombiegleemaxApr 27, 2005 20:26:13 | I was never a big fan of the whole AoM timeline, and War of Souls pretty much turned me off to any future DL novels. That being said, I have the the DL Sourcebook that was released however long ago, and I bought it purely for the 3rd Edition conversions, with the idea in mind that someday I'll run a game in Krynn pre-Cataclysm, maybe 5 years before in Istar. I even thought about replacing the HotL with PC characters to see how this would rewrite history (or is that the future?). Beyond that, nah, not too interested, short of the Knights of Takhisis, independent Draconian nation, and perhaps a couple of other things. No Takhisis snatching the world, no dragon overlords, nothing of that nature from AoM. I still my 2nd edition Heroes of the Lance box set with all those maps and stuff, which is really cool to use, but I want a pre-cataclysm Ansalon continent map. |
