#1kheldrenApr 13, 2005 9:42:09 | Mike, I see from the OutOfPrint board that a new "Best of Dragon" is going to be published (this is the discussion thread ) can you tell us what Mystara-related stuff is likely to be included? Thanks |
#2zombiegleemaxApr 13, 2005 18:34:20 | To be completely honest, I don't know. I haven't been told much of anything about this project beyond that it exists. Well, no, that's not true. I know Erik has gone through every issue of Dragon looking for what is cool enough to be included in this compilation. What has he chosen? That I don't know. Now, if I get any say in it whatsoever (and there's no reason to believe that I will) I'll do what I can to champion the inclusion of Known World and Mystara goodness (as you all would expect from me). If I don't get a say (which is likely), then who knows? |
#3kheldrenApr 14, 2005 2:01:27 | Thanks Mike. And that is a lot of research... |

If I don't get a say (which is likely), then who knows? Thats cool, Mike Let us know if you hear about any Mystara-relevant material to be included. By the way: Does this mean that legal issues of the past concerning reprinting of articles has been solved allowing for a Dungeon CD archive or similar as well? Any chance Paizo could publish a collected Voyage of the Princess Ark series? Håvard |
#5gazza555Apr 14, 2005 4:39:06 | Any chance Paizo could publish a collected Voyage of the Princess Ark series? Me too, me too :D Regards, Gary |
#6CthulhudrewApr 14, 2005 5:51:44 | While we've got your attention, any news on the Mystara in Dragon possibility that you hinted at a month or two ago? ;) |
#7dave_lApr 14, 2005 7:50:00 | Me too, me too :D Yes, put my name on that list too. I cannot believe the prices the Dragon CD's are going for on ebay - I can't see myself getting the VotPA articles not included in Champions of Mystara from that source anytime soon. |
#8zombiegleemaxApr 14, 2005 13:46:07 | All right. Let me start answering some of these questions. Forgive me up front for my sometimes evasive answers, but I trust you understand my position. Does this mean that legal issues of the past concerning reprinting of articles has been solved allowing for a Dungeon CD archive or similar as well? Let's just say the legal issues have been dealt with enough to allow us to do this printed compendium (I don't know anything beyond that). I have heard no rumblings about putting together a Dungeon CD or anything like the original Dragon CD. Any chance Paizo could publish a collected Voyage of the Princess Ark series? Oh my how I would love to see that! As of right now, I am not aware of any such collection. Hmm... I should bring it up with Keith. ;) While we've got your attention, any news on the Mystara in Dragon possibility that you hinted at a month or two ago? We're going to do another Campaign Classics issue sometime next year (early in the year, I believe). Erik has assured me that there is a good chance something from Mystara will be in it. I will, of course, continue to push for that probability to become a reality. |
#9havardApr 15, 2005 12:49:11 | All right. Let me start answering some of these questions. Forgive me up front for my sometimes evasive answers, but I trust you understand my position. Sure. Actually I was quite happy with your answers this time though Let's just say the legal issues have been dealt with enough to allow us to do this printed compendium (I don't know anything beyond that). I have heard no rumblings about putting together a Dungeon CD or anything like the original Dragon CD. Okay. I already have the original Dragon Archives. Not sure I'd be interested in another one #250->, but I would definately pick up a collection of the old Dungeon ones. Now onto the most interesting issue: The Princess Ark! Oh my how I would love to see that! As of right now, I am not aware of any such collection. Hmm... I should bring it up with Keith. ;) Wow! I was sure your response to this one would be more negative. I think a Voyage of the Princess Ark collection would have been awesome. Though connected to Mystara it is classic enough to be of interest beyond the regular Mystara crowd. Also the fact that it is mainly fiction might help. Legal-wise it might be less problematic too, since you only have to deal with one writer instead of several, if that is an issue at all. I wouldn't mind seeing the original art included (not the CoM art though), but new artwork would be awesome too! If it was to be published I hope most of the non-fiction stuff would be included aswell, such as the description of countries, characters etc. Perhaps some new poster maps could be included aswell instead of or in addition to the old ones. The rules part might be problematic. I see three possible sollutions to that one: 1) Include the original rules. Cheap, but perhaps WotC wouldn't care much for it. 2) Conversions to 3E. Would be cool, but would require a bit more work. 3) Leave the rules out. This would be the cheapest sollution, and might work just as well. I am really drooling over this idea. If it could be done that would be awesome! We're going to do another Campaign Classics issue sometime next year (early in the year, I believe). Erik has assured me that there is a good chance something from Mystara will be in it. I will, of course, continue to push for that probability to become a reality. Next year as in 2006? Oh man, that is faaar away! I like the fact that you are doing Campaign Classics issues though. I enjoy reading about the other OOP settings aswell, though ofcourse anything Mystaran will guarrantee me picking up a copy (or two even). Cheers! Håvard |
#10havardApr 26, 2005 13:21:31 | So, now that you're here Mike, wanna comment more on this topic? :D Håvard |
#11weasel_fierceApr 26, 2005 18:37:41 | I'd suggest making it as rules neutral as possible. That way, its more immediately usefull for everyone. Oh, and another vote for Voyage of the princess Ark |
#12havardApr 27, 2005 11:09:47 | I'd suggest making it as rules neutral as possible. That way, its more immediately usefull for everyone. Rules light is probably the way to go, I agree. That way there will be more room to focus on the setting too, which will be good for everyone. I am much more interested in seeing more Mystara stuff than I am in seeing the actual conversions. Did I mention that I am discussing the possibility of a return of the VotPA over at www.paizo.com ? ;) Håvard |
#13zombiegleemaxApr 27, 2005 14:00:25 | I'd suggest making it as rules neutral as possible. That way, its more immediately usefull for everyone. I don't mind making it rules-neutral or rules-light, but I'd be bitterly disappointed if the original rules bits weren't included as an appendix. It couldn't cost much, and it'd be really useful both for people that are still using the original Mystara and for people wanting to do their own conversions. |
#14zombiegleemaxApr 27, 2005 16:08:06 | Did I mention that I am discussing the possibility of a return of the VotPA over at www.paizo.com ? ;) I saw that! :D At the moment I have no further comments. |
#15fanchergwApr 27, 2005 18:28:36 | I'd just like to say that a CD Dungeon archive would make me really happy. It would definitely get me to loosen the old purse strings. Gordon |
#16spellweaverApr 28, 2005 4:33:32 | I'd just like to say that a CD Dungeon archive would make me really happy. It would definitely get me to loosen the old purse strings. Me too, me too!!! :-) Jesper |
#17havardApr 28, 2005 8:46:43 | I saw that! :D Fair enought I am just hoping the ruckuss I've been causing is enough to make Erik Mona investigate the possibility... Håvard |
#18zombiegleemaxApr 28, 2005 15:49:51 | I am just hoping the ruckuss I've been causing is enough to make Erik Mona investigate the possibility... Your ruckuss and my email to Erik and Keith (about your ruckuss, to bring it to their attention) has at least made them aware of the request from Mystara's fan base. Now I have no further comment. |
#19havardMay 02, 2005 13:08:22 | Your ruckuss and my email to Erik and Keith (about your ruckuss, to bring it to their attention) has at least made them aware of the request from Mystara's fan base. Awesome Mike! Did I mention how much we like you? Håvard |
#20zombiegleemaxMay 05, 2005 14:23:16 | I'd just like to say that a CD Dungeon archive would make me really happy. It would definitely get me to loosen the old purse strings. I would loosen mine as well, which is saying a lot since I'm a real tightwad. I would love to use something like this in my upcoming campaign. I think this one might be my longest ever, since the players that have joined me are mostly close friends and family with a few odds and ends that will float in and out,but my core players are those who I will see weekly for several years to come. |
#21havardMay 13, 2005 7:23:21 | Voyage of the Princess Arc Collection:Your ruckuss and my email to Erik and Keith (about your ruckuss, to bring it to their attention) has at least made them aware of the request from Mystara's fan base. Well, looks like some things are happening. Erik Mona replied to the VotPA thread over at paizo's forums yesterday. Read all about it here. Håvard |
#22spellweaverMay 13, 2005 10:23:44 | Voyage of the Princess Arc Collection: Wow. Cool read. :-) Jesper |
#23dave_lMay 13, 2005 13:52:52 | An ESD containing all the original articles (including maps) would certainly get my vote. So much so that I decided to register over there just to say it! |
#24zombiegleemaxMay 18, 2005 19:28:48 | Let us know if you hear about any Mystara-relevant material to be included. I have heard first hand from the person compiling the book that there will be Mystara-relevant material in the book. Not much, of course, but it'll be in there. |
#25havardMay 19, 2005 8:18:08 | I have heard first hand from the person compiling the book that there will be Mystara-relevant material in the book. Not much, of course, but it'll be in there. Cool! Will these articles (Mystara or other) be printed as are or will they be converted to 3E? And will there be new artwork? Håvard |
#26stanlesMay 19, 2005 17:30:30 | I have heard first hand from the person compiling the book that there will be Mystara-relevant material in the book. Not much, of course, but it'll be in there. OK, now I'm interested so when is this thing coming out? |
#27zombiegleemaxMay 24, 2005 15:37:42 | Will these articles (Mystara or other) be printed as are or will they be converted to 3E? And will there be new artwork? I have heard that everything in the book will be updated to 3.5, but that isn't a 100% fact yet. I don't know anything about the artwork yet, either. Sorry. so when is this thing coming out? As of right now, October. |
#28zombiegleemaxMay 24, 2005 16:26:54 | I have heard that everything in the book will be updated to 3.5, but that isn't a 100% fact yet. Would that be 3.5 rules in addition to the rules as originally published, or instead of the rules as originally published? R.A. |
#29zombiegleemaxMay 25, 2005 14:56:07 | Would that be 3.5 rules in addition to the rules as originally published, or instead of the rules as originally published? Instead, as I understand it. Also, don't get your hopes up on a lot of Mystara content. The compiler (a mysterious entity I will hereafter refer to as the Compiler) told me that he chose to keep the world-specific articles out of the book, for the most part. What I'm trying to say is that you shouldn't buy the book solely for the Mystara (or Ravenloft, or Dark Sun, or whatever) content. Feel free to let that be your final deciding factor to purchase it, though. :D |
#30havardMay 30, 2005 3:14:48 | Instead, as I understand it. If there are *any* Mystara or even OD&D articles included, even in 3E form, it might be interesting to see what they have done with them though. I hope someone (Mike or others) who get a chance to look at the collection at an early stage will let us know what might be in it of interest from a Mystara specific point of view. We are pretty starved for new stuff, so it really doesn't take that much... ;) Håvard |
