#1wolffenjugend_dupApr 14, 2005 12:00:02 | Here is my theory of arcane energy... IMC, the amount of arcane energy in the world is constant. The only thing that changes is how the arcane energy is used and what form it takes. Think of arcane energy as being kept in a "bank" from which wizards and other arcane spellcasters "withdraw" energy for their spells. As spells are cast, the arcane energy reverts to its purest form and returns to the bank. Magic items contain arcane energy that is "captured" and held until released, at which time it also returns to the bank. I'm looking for a way for arcane magic to be "destroyed" so that the total amount of arcane energy in the world is reduced. In particular, I'm thinking that destroying magic items does not release the arcane energy stored inside but instead destroys it; thus, making the destruction of magic items a serious offense for spellcasters (particularly Wizards of High Sorcery). The reason I'm forming this theory is that I want the wizard in the party to be able to drain the arcane energy from magic items and release it into the world so that it returns to the bank, rather than simply destroying the magic item and arcane energy stored within it. In particular, this would be used for dealing with evil magic items that the party cannot use and will not allow back into general circulation. With this theory, the wizard wouldn't want to destroy the magic item (thus, reducing the amount of arcane energy in the world) but, instead, would want to drain its magic and release it back into the world (I'm thinking of using the leeching ability from AoM to accomplish this). Thoughts? Ideas? p.s. we play in the War of the Lance era, if that matters. |
