#1lonewolfApr 17, 2005 3:37:18 | I have a player who plays a female Favored Soul(spontaneous divine caster from Complete Divine) of Odin and its a bit Valkyre style. Now the Player asked me if its possible that he can have a relict(also in Complete Divine) of Odin anytime later in the campaign and I would like to allow that. Unfortunately I dont have any cool idea for such a relict. I want it to have a really cool feeling and unique effect without beeing too powerful for a lvl9 character. Any ideas? |

Offhand, I'd think something like Odin's spear, Gungnir, which always hit its mark and returned to the hand of its owner (maybe some kind of powers to reflect that)- something along those lines would probably fit. [EDIT] Just checked out Complete Divine- I think the spear idea would work. Something similar to the Spear of Retribution- a magical returning spear, but perhaps with the ability 1-3 times per day to attack as if the user were under the effect of a True Strike spell (ie, +20 to hit). Not sure of the specifics, nor how many times per day it would/should be able to be used, but I'll give it some more thought later. Maybe this will help you get an idea, anyway. Another possibility is a magical steed, like Sleipnir, that the Valkyrie could ride. |

The legends about odin are many and cool, so there could be any number of things you could give. When he travels far incognito he sometimes borrows one of Freya's bird cloaks, which allows the wearer to polymorph into a specific type of bird. He drank the Mead of Poetry (which he cheated away from a giant) and then he gave the Gift of Poetry to the skjalds, allowing them to sing and tell tales and recite poems. He had to hang on a tree in a number of days to learn the Runes of Power (see Hugin's excellent thread on this) and AFAI recall he placed his one eye in the Well of Mimir, trading it for a sip of its wisdom-granting waters. Odin also gave a really cool sword to his mortal grandson's grandson (his name eludes me but he killed the dragon Fafnir with it and got the name "Fafnir's Bane" because of it). So any number of items or bonuses could be used. Cheers, :-) Jesper |
