#1SysaneApr 18, 2005 13:32:41 | Thought I'd share this with you all. I already ran my own version of Dregoth Ascending when I gave up all hope of getting my hands on the original back in 1998.
I'm now restarting my campaign with those same characters to run the 3.5 converted DA by athas.org. However, I don't want to undermine what has already transpired through the events of my rendition. Here's what I'm planning. Its a bit cliche but it should work.
Suggestions and comments are welcome and encouraged:
Shattered and beaten, Dregoth nursed his wounds on the Astral Plane for nearly two years since his supposed death at the hands of the Sorcerer Kings. During this time, he came across the mauled remains of being that was identical to himself in appearance. Appalled, the Dread King was shocked to his senses and incinerated the remnants of this "imitation". Determined to find the source of this “doppelganger”, the undead Dragon King retraced its steps through the use of psionics and magic. In doing so, he found the opening to another Planar Gate (Destroyed in his reality) to a dimension similar to his own but with some minor differences.
Upon entering the Gate, Dregoth was surprised to find himself returned to New Guistenal. On this Athas, his city was still unscathed and much as it was before his assault on his dimension's Raam. Unaware of the difference, the dray welcomed their god back from his long absence. The Dread King continued to regain his strength in the confines of the underground city for the next three years. As he did, the Sorcerer King discovered his counterpart's research. He found that this world's Dregoth had also sought true godhood. However, he was attempting to achieve divinity through alternative, yet similar, means. Embracing this research as his own, the Dread King continued to develop this so called "godhood spell".
Nearly five years after his second defeat at the hands of his fellow Champions, The Dread King Dregoth is prepared to attempt his bid at divinity once again. If he was not destined to be a god on his world perhaps he would be on this one….

I'm in a similar situation: I'm moving back to Seattle and forming a new gaming group, one that has not played Dark Sun before (they weren't D&D experienced enough last time I lived there). Heh, heh, heh: this is going to be fun.
I'm planning on starting them in Balic, working them over to Kalidnay, and then dropping into Tyr just in time for Kalak to get killed when they hit about 10th level.
That's the plan now, however. Haven't quite decided where I'll fit Dregoth into the picture, but this seems like a good way to kickstart it. |
