#1gazza555Apr 21, 2005 7:06:49 | I've been modifying the Eberron Calendar from WoTC. It's not finished yet but you can see/test it here: Known World Calendar Known World Calendar with Events Regards, Gary |
#2kheldrenApr 21, 2005 8:45:44 | Nice work |
#3GoldrakApr 21, 2005 13:12:55 | Great work!!! |
#4CthulhudrewApr 21, 2005 15:25:14 | Sweet! I started to do a little bit with this when the Eberron calendar first came out, but I never got around to finishing things. Glad someone else had the same idea! What else are you planning on doing with it, if I may ask? |
#5HuginApr 21, 2005 17:17:29 | So far, so cool, Gary! |
#6katana_oneApr 21, 2005 17:34:16 | Nifty! Any plans to adjust the year by culture ? For example, adding 1000 to find the Alphatian Year (AY). |
#7gazza555Apr 22, 2005 4:03:46 | Thanks for all the positive comments. :embarrass Nifty! Yes, hopefully the final version will include the right prefix/suffix for the appropriate calendar as well as the correct year for that calendar. ie 1000 AC = ? AY etc). What else are you planning on doing with it, if I may ask? Hopefully I will add such things as comets, etc. Maybe add a 'events' database that will show what's happening on a given day or month. I am also open to suggestions. It's easy enough to add more national calendars, for example. Gary |
#8spellweaverApr 22, 2005 6:12:41 | Nice work! I believe 1000 AC = 2000 AY (what a coincidence, I wonder what empire will emerge in 2000 AC :D ) The Karameikos and Glantri Gaz both have nice charts of comets and special calender events. You could e.g. also include some of the holidays posted at the Vaults for the various immortals...? :-) Jesper |
#9gazza555Apr 22, 2005 6:21:36 | You could e.g. also include some of the holidays posted at the Vaults for the various immortals...? Yes, I could tie it in with Marco's list of Immortals by country so only the appropriate holidays show up for a given calendar. I was also thinking of a Hollow World Calendar with animated display of the floating continents following their orbits - but that might be a bit more tricky in HTML. Gary |
#10gazza555Apr 22, 2005 7:48:06 | Added 1000 years and AY suffix for Alphatian Calendar. Do any of the other calendars have a different prefix/suffix? Or a different start year for their calendar. IIRC the shadowelves 1300 (or so years ahead). Any others? Gary |
#11gazza555Apr 29, 2005 3:35:40 | It's still not finished, but here's version 2 with an 'events' window (Just for AC 1014 at the moment). Calendar with Events Does anyone have the events for PWA 1-3 & JA in an electronic form that I can cut and paste into the array's? It'll take ages to actually input by hand. ;) Comets, eclipses etc coming soon... Regards, Gary |
#12katana_oneApr 29, 2005 11:53:11 | Added 1000 years and AY suffix for Alphatian Calendar. The Rockhome calendar also uses a different "year 0" reference. Year 0 for the dwarves is the year that the Battle of Sardal Pass took place. I don't have my GAZ with me at the moment, so I can't tell you exactly which year it coincides with on the Thyatian calendar. |
#13zombiegleemaxApr 29, 2005 14:58:15 | Nice work! Not a coincidence - the Thyatian Empire was founded when Alphatian slaves took advantage of the confusion (read: massive wizard debauchery) of their 1000-year anniversary celebration to rise up and secede. |
#14graywolf-elmApr 29, 2005 15:08:13 | I'm trying to set up a calendar for the Orcs of Thar. I'm using Dwarvish week names for now. The Sind month names looked pretty good, but I'll only use those temporarily, unless I don't come up with something better. Along these lines, Does anyone know the Solstice dates for The Known World? Or the name of the Moon? I don't have everything in front of me here. I'm also working on holidays celebrated by the Humanoids a little. GW |
#15spellweaverApr 29, 2005 15:53:30 | I'm also working on holidays celebrated by the Humanoids a little. Then you might want to check out this Humanoid Holiday article from the Vault: http://www.mystaranet.jamm.com/vaults/html/noidhol.html :-) Jesper |
#16graywolf-elmApr 29, 2005 16:02:54 | Thanks, I read those, and want to modify some a little. I'm going with the idea that the humanoids are more in tune with the seasons too. My players asked me a question. So how long has it been since our characters started adventuring. I made the mistake of not keeping track from the beginning, and have to go back and look at elapsed time from all my notes. I'm getting it all in DMGenie now. GW |
#17zombiegleemaxApr 30, 2005 14:25:28 | Wow, great calendar! This is going to come in handy with adding more flavor to my campaign this summer. |
#18katana_oneMay 01, 2005 21:30:42 | Does anyone know … the name of the Moon? That would be Matera. |
#19zombiegleemaxMay 02, 2005 13:54:31 | That would be Matera. Matera is the visible moon. The other moon is Patera, from where the Rakasta originate. Can't remember right now what makes it not visible. |
#20katana_oneMay 02, 2005 18:27:59 | Matera is the visible moon. The other moon is Patera, from where the Rakasta originate. Can't remember right now what makes it not visible. The ore that makes up Patera's core has the unique ability to bend light in the visible spectrum - making it invisible from outside its sky shield. Of course, since it is invisible, it really doesn't matter much for purposes of Gazza'a interactive calendar. |
#21gazza555May 10, 2005 6:57:02 | Added events for AC 1015 and 1016. Gary |
#22zombiegleemaxJun 30, 2005 20:36:07 | I have to keep this where i can find it. |
#23thorfJun 30, 2005 21:47:43 | I notice that no one answered about the dates of the solstices and equinoxes yet. I'd also be interested to know. Perhaps this is listed in one of the Poor Wizard's Almanacs at some point...?? |
#24gazza555Jul 01, 2005 2:55:04 | I'll have to get back to this at some point. The data entry is just sooooo boring. I've also lost the ability to upload to the site, it's only accessible via LAN and you can't FTP to it! Regards, Gary |
#25gazza555Aug 02, 2005 3:33:32 | Added events for AC 1017. :D Regards, Gary |
#26zombiegleemaxAug 06, 2005 11:47:09 | Good job. This calander is going to be very helpful when my players start really getting into world events. |
#27katana_oneAug 24, 2005 20:39:17 | The Rockhome calendar also uses a different "year 0" reference. Year 0 for the dwarves is the year that the Battle of Sardal Pass took place. I don't have my GAZ with me at the moment, so I can't tell you exactly which year it coincides with on the Thyatian calendar. I finally remembered to get out my Rockhome GAZ and look this up! From page 45 of GAZ 6: BC 492: The Rockhome borders are finally secured against the nonhumans in the Battle of Sardal Pass. This is Year 0 in the dwarven calendar. I'm also looking at the calendar info from PWA3 (page 117-118). In that guide it mentions that AC 1012 is actually the year 312 on Minrothad's calendar, and that by the Shadowelf calendar, AC 1012 is actually 2117. Hope that helps! |
#28gazza555Aug 25, 2005 4:04:25 | Hope that helps! It certainly does, thanks. :D On a related note, I seem to remember that not every year starts on Nuwmont 1 (or that nations equivalent) so at some point I need to address that. Regards, Gary |
#29graywolf-elmSep 16, 2005 16:32:33 | Someone posted this on our local gaming website, and I like the names well enough. There isn't a real calendar in the Orcs of Thar Gazeteer. I'm assuming January to be the first equivalent month in the Mystara world calendar. GW January ashurzal February azaral March ularkal April niinal May hoital June kulal July ghukal August rarthal September orgnakal October kalal November reskal December rhukal Sunday kular Monday grothar Tuesday haashar Wednesday niinar Thursday hotar Friday urnar Saturday kalar |
#30zombiegleemaxSep 17, 2005 9:47:14 | Nice. Man you really are opening a whole new world from the perspective of the Broken Lands. |
#31gazza555Sep 19, 2005 3:59:04 | Someone posted this on our local gaming website, and I like the names well enough. There isn't a real calendar in the Orcs of Thar Gazeteer. I'm assuming January to be the first equivalent month in the Mystara world calendar. Very useful, I'll add them next time I get access to the site. Or PM me and I'll email the calendar to you. Regards Gary |
#32thorfSep 19, 2005 6:38:37 | Wow! Those orcish names are pretty cool! They sound a little similar to Tolkien's Black Speech, which is great as far as I'm concerned. |
#33graywolf-elmSep 19, 2005 10:03:50 | I don't claim ownership of the names. It may very well have come from there. Someone posted them on our website, after I sent out a request for good Ideas. GW |
