This means a 9th level wizard can cast a fireball that does 12d6 damage, as opposed to the maximum of 10d6 that the spell allows. |
#3scout989May 09, 2005 22:27:02 | Hmm, I hadn't noticed that... By a strict reading of the feat, I can't see any argument against a 20th-lvl wizard using the feat to cast a fireball that does 23d6 damage. I'm sure that someone out there can come up with something, tho ;) On a personal level, even though I can't justify it by the RAW, I would never even try to use the feat in that manner or be all right with anyone I play with doing so- It just seems so wrong. |
#4neuroMay 10, 2005 16:23:55 | I personally think that its a typo, the caster level dont raise the caps of the spells, maybe if it were pointed by the feat like "it lets you pass the cap of the spells and raises your CL", but again, your CL doesnt raise the damage cap of the spells. It will be nice to have real and oficial erratas documents of the books , i made a question about an spell in the AoM book in dragonlanceforums.com and didnt got an answer either. By the way the cap of fireball is 10d6 not 20d6. |

#6neuroMay 11, 2005 0:33:24 | Cool :D, you can pass the damage caps with the feat of leech item too or just with this one?, and now that i have you attention, the wisdom loss caused by ethereal flame in the AoM book its ability drain or ability damage Cam? :P |
#7cam_banksMay 11, 2005 2:58:23 | Cool :D, you can pass the damage caps with the feat of leech item too or just with this one? The Leech Item feat only increases spellcasting level, and does not change how spells work the way that Reserves of Strength does. Leech Item adds to effective caster level, making all spell variables such as duration and sepll damage etc. change, but doesn't (for example) give the caster more spells per day or allow them to exceed the cap on spells. It's designed to get around the loss of caster levels from the drain of the souls in the Age of Mortals. now that i have you attention, the wisdom loss caused by ethereal flame in the AoM book its ability drain or ability damage Cam? :P It's ability damage. You heal it back the same way you'd heal it back if you lost it from poison, etc. Cheers, Cam |
#8true_blueMay 14, 2005 11:02:07 | scout989, I would think that if you are a 20th level wizard, you can still only cast a fireball that does 10d6 damage. If you use Reserves of Strength feat, and knock it up by three, you can cast a fireball that does 13d6 damage. It still won't allow you to add on all 20 of your levels and then some, over the cap. Whatever point you choose(1-3), is how much you can raise it over the cap of the initial spell. |
