1 gp = 1 stl.

Very simple. The smaller denominations are a little more difficult to convert, since gold is reduced to a lesser value, but the above is your easiest rule of thumb.

Well, really it's a little more complicated than that.

1 PHB gp = 1 DLCS stl

-but-

1 DLCS gp = 1/20 DLCS stl (I think that's the right conversion)

So, techincally, no...items in Dragonlance are not cheaper (as the Dragonlance steel piece replaces the D&D gold piece). But the Dragonlance steel piece is worth 20 times as much as the Dragonlance gold piece.

Does that make sense?

the question is: why if steel pieces are more valuable than gold pieces, the steel swods are not more expensive? wouldn't they be like gold swords on a regular d&d adventure (wichwould be very expensive, but useless)

Why? Look in the DLCS. Page 195.

Following the First Cataclysm, however, the steel pieces became scarce and was needed for making weapons and tools, and for reforging the wartorn continent of Ansalon. Gold, because it was to soft, for either of these applications, become worthless, exept for ornamtions.

In this Time a good steelweapon save you live more as all gold at ansalon.

We know that Steel is scarce. When you need Steel, you must go to the dwarfs. You can buy it in Dwarfknigdom Kaylon. Here gives the famous Rubicon Steel. Deal most with Solamnia. In Dwarfkingdom Thorbardin. Here gives the famous Daergar Steel. Or in Dwarfkingdom Zhakar. Deal most with Neraka. You can in all three Kingdoms buy Steel and Coins.

The Problem is, where end Iron and where begin steel at Krynn. Run all People with Steelarmor and Weapon over Krynn? I can't believe it. The one city the export steelweapon is Haven. Self the Minotaurs export only bronzeweapons.

Long long time ago at the earth, Iron was valuably as Gold. The most Iron was found at metoridore. It cant be smelthing or forging. It must be execute with stone.

If you're truly interested...there are numerous numerous cutthroat debates on this that can be found here on these boards. Just search steel standard or something similar in the Search function to find them.

Shhh. You aren't supposed to think when it comes to steel pieces. That's the equivalent to making your Will save vs suspension of disbelief. :D

1GP = 1GP works well

1Stl Pice = a worthless bit of plentiful iron + carbon works too.

Whatever...there's plenty of plausible and believable explinations for the "steel" standard. Some people just refuse to listen to them. :P
