#1zombiegleemaxJun 02, 2005 22:00:09 | I couldn't find a search button anywhere on the site -- sorry if I'm just blind. I understand that the SAGA system hasn't been supported for years, but does it have ANY internet presence? I have about 10 Fifth Age SAGA products languishing in my closet and I just went through them the other day. I was reminded how cool they were and figured I'd look online for some inspiration or camaradarie. I haven't been able to find barely a mention of the system. Could anyone direct me to a forum or anything like that? Or is SAGA completely dead and gone? Should I bite the bullet and just purchase the d20 books? |
#2rooksJun 02, 2005 22:41:47 | Oh. Oh man. Brother, I feel you. I love Saga. I still love Saga to this day. But it is dead and gone. The future of Dragonlance is d20 all the way and it's a good thing; a setting needs to keep current with the way of things or get left behind. And for the record, Dragonlance almost got left behind anyway. Thank the Pantheon for Sov. Press. They make fantastic gaming products and are well worth your money. However, I'm still something of a Saga aficionado and I never mind slinging the hash about one of my favorite game systems of all time. There might even be a few old Saga dinos patrolling these boards too. I just... I just love me some Saga. I really do. Let's discuss it. Let's. |
#3DragonhelmJun 02, 2005 23:51:56 | There is some SAGA presence on the internet, but not a lot. At the Nexus (see my sig), I've made it a point to allow submissions from 1st/2nd edition, SAGA, or 3rd edition. Most submissions have been in 3rd edition, so we don't have a lot of the others. However, SAGA material is always welcome. The one big thing we have that I think you might like is an adventure called Chaos Reaver. There's a 3.5 edition as well. Also, the d20 books are very much worth it. They're the best sourcebooks for Dragonlance to date, in my not-so-humble opinion. ;) Even if you prefer to play using SAGA rules still and not the d20 rules, the d20 books contain a wealth of information. War of the Lance is, perhaps, the best of the d20 books. They're all great, though. And feel free to discuss Dragonlance at DragonlanceForums.com. While the gaming talk is generally d20, discussion of any system is allowed. So anyway, welcome to the boards and feel free to discuss the SAGA rules. I think you'll find a segment of the fan community still enjoys these rules and wwould like to discuss them. |

#5havardJun 03, 2005 5:53:35 | I think it would be a shame if SAGA disappeared. It is certainly one of the more innovative things out there. Let me second that! I heard SAGA was hated among the majority of the DL fans, but I too loved the system. I wish they hade made a revised edition of DL Saga, incorporating some of the finesse from Marvel Saga, but the system even as it stood was brilliant game. I especially loved the magic system, we had so much fun with it. I never really liked how the Roles worked though, and some of the automatic trumps given to various roles and races seemed incredibly unbalanced. I would have loved a more standardized system of creating roles and races and making them balanced. I really enjoyed the good old Greyhawk SAGA site by bluesponge, but it disappeared and I never got around to saving the files... Håvard |
#6rooksJun 03, 2005 11:33:58 | The Saga magic system was the best magic system I've yet played with. Kicks the pants out of d20. I could tell you some stories about some magical battles that took place in my Saga game... |

Go to http://web.archive.org/ and do a search on http://web2.airmail.net/sponge2/ . You should be able to dig up the archives that way. Matthew L. Martin |

#9DragonhelmJun 06, 2005 12:16:34 | Anyone have any good links to SAGA stuff out there on the web? About the only one I know of is the Dragonlance Fifth Age Campaign Oracle. |
#10rooksJun 10, 2005 12:26:44 | No! Don't die on me, man! Don't you die on me! Not after what we've been through! Not after everything! Don't you die on me, you son of a b***h! Custom SAGA rules. Who's got 'em? Who loves 'em? Anyone know where I can find a downloadable customizable non-DL FATE DECK? |
#11brimstoneJun 10, 2005 14:05:20 | Well, I posted this link on the other forums, but I can post it here too. This guy, Steve Kenson, did some great custom SAGA rules (well...custom for DL anyway). It's really more like taking some of the better aspects of Marvel SAGA and inserting them into the Dragonlance SAGA rules. Good stuff. http://members.aol.com/talonmail/articles.html |
#12rooksJun 10, 2005 19:02:42 | Well, I posted this link on the other forums, but I can post it here too. Yup; got it. Check the other forum out. A while back, I found a blank Fate deck online somewhere, but I forgot to bookmark it and I don't know where it went. Damn. |
#13Matthew_L._MartinJun 10, 2005 20:48:01 | Yup; got it. Check the other forum out. Would this be what you're thinking of? Matthew L. Martin |
#14havardJun 14, 2005 7:14:55 | Would this be what you're thinking of? Grrr...it doesn't work Håvard |
#15zombiegleemaxJun 15, 2005 18:14:44 | I never liked SAGA as a game system, the only reason i got them was because they were the only sourcebooks available for a time. In fact i converted many things to players options back then, and luckly the last products were 2e compatible. But I must admit it had strong points, like character creation. I love the Demeanor concept, it goes beyond the alignment. |

Each to his own Our group loved SAGA so much that we converted every single AD&D campaign to SAGA. We loved the cardplay and the fact that injured characters would have fewer cards to chose between than they would normally have. I found the roles and races to be a bit unbalanced though, and I would have liked to see a better developed skill system. I agree that the Demeneaor/Nature system is excellent. I never liked the random character generation system, but it was easily replaced by a point based home brew system. Håvard |
#17darthsylverJun 16, 2005 12:32:22 | I knew I would find rooks in this thread. Rooks if you like the Saga Magic why don't you check out the variable magic systems in "Unearthed Arcana," I think they might help you out with d20 a little bit better. |
#18zombiegleemaxJun 18, 2005 19:19:47 | i have a halfway finished '2nd Edition' of Saga. but i haven't worked on it in years. mainly cause i haven't played any roleplaying game in years. it mainly just incorporates some 3e rules and then adapts a regular deck of playing cards to play Saga with. oh well. good times. |
