Greetings fellow Mystarans!

The following has already been posted on the MML and since I know many folks here do not follow that list I will re-post here. For those that do follow both lists, please forgive my cross-posting.

The link below is to the first part of what will eventually be a detailed map of the Known World (circa AC 1000) using CC2-Pro:

Anyone who is interested in obtaining a copy of the map in CC2's .fcw format can e-mail me directly at brendan_corliss@yahoo.com. You do not have own CC2 to view it in that format. You can download a free viewr/printer from Profantasy:

Enjoy!

And may all your endeavours be Golden!

Forgiveness granted! ;)

Very nice looking map. It's the kind of thing that would be great as a handout to the players. I look forward to more.

Thanks. The goal is to have a map of that detail for the whole Known World. You could then print it anywhere from 3"x4.5" to 4'x6' or beyond. Basically any ratio of 1:1.5 would work. The other great thing about CC2 is that I can put all kinds of information on the same map and then you can choose to print (show/hide) whatever layers/sheets you want to. It's very flexible that way.

One other thing that I've discovered as I've been crossing over into Minrothad is that there alot of volcanoes on the map, but very little indication which ones are active. There are a few clues when reading the descriptions in the Gazetteers, but even that's fairly inconsistent. Am I missing something?

Also, there are several Towers shown on the Ierendi map but none are named or referred to in the text of the GAZ. Based on the locations, I would speculate that they would be lighthouses. But that's just a guess. Of course, Ierendi would then have substantially more lighthouses than any of its neighbors. Does anyone else have any ideas here?

I can't wait to see the next one!

If you check out my maps (or Mark's Known World map, for that matter), you should be able to see the collected captions for each nation. The official sources are generally the maps that came with each gazetteer plus the trail maps; the trail maps added quite a lot of stuff, and introduced a few corrections as well as a few more mistakes.

It's going to be really cool seeing your final Known World map. :bounce:

Thanks for the feedback. I had actually just started looking over your other maps to see if they had that info. And sure enough - there it was. Thanks!

I guess I'll be updating my Ierendi map in addition to finishing up Minrothad. It's not really that big of a deal since it's all vector stuff. Besides, any excuse I can find to drag my heels before having to deal with the Cruth/Altan Tepe range...

Well, don't hold your breath (unless you look good in blue). It's gonna be quite some time before I'm finished. But so far I'm fairly motivated, so I'm definitely making progress.

Glad I could help.

Yeah, updates are really easy when working with vectors and layers. I think the flexibility of editing is one of the best features of a vector-based mapping system.

Just curious, but how are you going to map out the mainland? Do you have a strategy yet? As far as I can see, you have to start at the top and work down to the bottom, especially when working with mountain ranges. Can you get round that with clever use of layers, or what?

hehe, yeah I know exactly what you mean. I've been dragging my heels on my own Known World trail maps for months now, because I want to get all the little details worked out and finalised before posting them. Since they will include areas of Sind, the Great Northern Wildlands, Wendar and Heldann, that is no mean task. The 24 mile per hex map is easier in theory since most areas already have an "official" version, but in practice I am aiming for maximum accuracy between scales, which means that I'm redoing the 24 mile per hex map based on the 8 mile per hex map.

Then there's the Savage Coast 24 mile per hex map, which brings up the irritating question of where to overlay the grid on top of the 8 mile per hex maps. (Yes, I keep going on about this, I know. :P ) You might have thought that the official Arm of the Immortals/Orc's Head Peninsula 24 mile per hex map (from Dragon 200) would help, but it seems that whoever made it didn't really care about preserving accuracy between the scales.

Anyway, all I'm really trying to say is that I sympathise with the amount of work it's going to take to get to that final stage.
