#1ruhl-than_sageJun 06, 2005 19:43:33 | I just recently created a map for the village of Last Port for my game. For anyone who is interested here is the link to the image: http://photos14.flickr.com/17900865_878efe4b57_o.jpg I was also wondering if anyone had any information on Last Port or any ideas about the village. I know I probably should have asked before I made the map, but I still haven't filled out the locations. I was thinking about a Silt Temple, an Air Temple, maybe a merchant house headquarters. All the large buildings around the 'Dockside Market' were supposed to be warehouses, and my wife and I had come up with some names for taverns and Inns. |

If the last port is in a good spot then there could be some ruins of an old green age port. maybe the stumps of a bridge? or the rocky remnants of the port jutting out into the silt? you would also need some sort of security, mercenaries of the merchant company in control i guess, maybe with a supervisory element from the city if the port is important. |

#5dracochapelJun 07, 2005 23:24:50 | I couldnt find anything about Last Port in the books i have, but i dont own them all. My main question is - what is the purpose of Last Port? Why is it there and what does it do? I had a look at its location on the map and it is well away from the trading lanes (especially the gulg->north ledopolus->south ledopolus->balic axis) with stony barrens inland. If there is trade it is either by Sea or less legitimate with ex-slaves and raiding tribes that live in the desert. (Trading with the tribes to make the town useful and required for the survival of the tribes, and therefore to prevent the tribes from raiding it) Its too close to balic to be a waystation for silt ships travelling up the coast (but cargo could be stored there to circumvent tariffs of entry into balic), and if it is a ship building/storage facility it probably should be at Balic where it can be more secure. But if it was originally a green age facility it may remain (mostly in ruins), just instead of been able to build say 10 ships it can only build 1 or 2 - much slower and with more manpower and requires more security. Giants would be a major (if irregular) threat, there are many small islands with 1 or 2 giants that are too small to appear on the map of the estuary, so i imagine there are some ballista or catapults at the docks to at least deter giants. If the town is important it is probably managed by house wavir, though it may be managed by one of the other balician houses. Having a silt and air temple would create conflict. The silt cleric can point to the power of his element - and silt storms would be a problem, and get worse after the cerulean storm comes into being. Maybe the air temple was the primary temple but the upstart silt temple has come in and is gathering a lions share of the worship, causing conflict. |

I figure that there is another less used trade route form the ivory triangle region and that there are (as you suggested) probably other villages and tribes in that area to trade with. I like the idea of the conflict between the temples, I think I'll use that. I originaly included them merely because they seemed approiate: the Silt for obvious reasons, and the wind because you need wind the blow in your sails. It's name really puzzles me however...In what way is it the Last Port? I just don't understand. |
