Here's a PrC that was influenced by the Elementalist and the Elemental Master PrC's from DS Prestige Class Appendix I.

I saw that those PrC were sort of meant to go together and felt that a third in that sequence would fit nicely.

Thoughts and suggestions are welcome.

Elemental Tempest

“ Burn in the fires of retribution!!!”
-Pyrasene, half elf fire tempest

Elemental tempests are zealot like in the worship of their patron element. Taking the pact with their elemental to near fanatical heights, they are granted additional powers and abilities by their patron element.

Elemental tempests can be of any race. The character’s agenda vary from individual to individual, but are usually guided by the needs of their patron element. Exacting vengeance against beings that have wronged their element and under taking quests to increase their elements hold on Athas are examples of the goals that elemental tempests strive for.

Elemental tempests can be solitary beings or found as part of a group. Some are leaders of mercenary companies devote to the characters patron element. Others seek knowledge to spread the glory of their element or condemn their patron’s rivals. Elemental Tempests can be encountered almost anywhere, but most are found near their worshipped element when not actively striving to complete their element’s bidding.

Hit Die: d8.
Requirements
To qualify to become an elemental tempest, a character must fulfill all of the following criteria.

Skills: Knowledge (religion) 10 ranks, Spellcraft 8 ranks.
Feats: Skill Focus (religion)
Spells: Ability to cast divine spells of 4th level or higher.
Special: Must have elemental affiliation as a class ability and energy resistance 10+.

Class SkillsThe elemental tempest’s class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Knowledge (planes) (Int) Knowledge (religion) (Int), Profession (Wis), and Spellcraft (Int)
Skill Points at Each Level: 2 + Int modifier.
Table: The Elemental Tempest
Lvl BAB Fort Ref Will Special Spells per Day
1st +0 +0 +0 +2 Channel element, Energy resistance 5 +1 level existing divine spellcasting class
2nd +1 +0 +0 +3 Domain focus +1 level existing divine spellcasting class
3rd +1 +1 +1 +3 Elemental lore +1 level existing divine spellcasting class
4th +2 +1 +1 +4 Elemental regeneration +1 level existing divine spellcasting class
5th +2 +1 +1 +4 Elemental lore +1 level existing divine spellcasting class
Channel Element (Su): The elemental tempest can focus the energies of his patron element to lethal effect. The character can expend two turning attempts to summon forth a 10’ cone of energy that delivers 1d6+1 points of damage per level of elemental tempest. A successful Reflex save (DC of 10 + class level + Charisma modifier) halves the damage. The damage inflicted is of the energy type associated with the elemental tempest’s patron element.

Energy Resistance: The elemental tempest becomes more resistant to the type of energy associated with their patron element. At 1st level they gain resistance 5 against this energy type. This resistance stacks with that granted by certain cleric domains and abilities.

Domain Focus (Ex): Starting at 2nd level, an elemental tempest adds +1 caster level bonus to spells from one of his patron element’s domains.

Elemental Lore (Ex): At 3rd and 5th levels, an elemental tempest’s knowledge of his patron element strengthens. Each time he gains elemental lore he may permanently modify one of his domain spells with either the Empower or Widen metamagic feat at no increase in the spell’s level. He does not need to have the specific metamagic feat in order to benefit from this ability. This ability can only be applied spells with the descriptor associated with the elemental tempest’s patron element.

Elemental Regeneration (Sp): Starting at 4th level, the elemental tempest heals 2 points of damage each round for a number of rounds equal to their divine caster level per day. The character must be still alive and meet conditions based on their patron element in order to benefit from this healing as follows:

·Air: Exposure to moving air, be it breeze, a draft, or a spell.
·Earth: Underground or buried up to waist in earth.
·Fire: Contact with a flame at least as large as a torch.
·Water: Exposure to rain or submerged up to waist in water.
·Magma: Contact with magma, lava, or flame at least as large as a torch.
·Rain: Exposure to rain or submerged up to waist in water.
·Silt: Exposure to an arid, dusty environment.
·Sun: Exposure to direct to sunlight or its equivalent.

I think the Channel ability is possibly too weak. It will max out at 1d6+5, and costs two turning attempts? Cone is powerful, yes, but the damage is a little weak. Perhaps 1d6 per level of ETe? Only one turning attempt? 1d8 per level? Put Channel as a higher level ability, maybe move Domain Focus down...so that Channel can be buffed?

Also, the requirements are set for a minimum of 8th level to take the first ETe level without the Energy Resistance 10 prerequisite. With that in there, the earliest character levels are 9 for an Elementalist 4, or 13 for an Elemental Master 1. For 9 and especially 13, Channel needs some work to be balanced abilities for the level at which it is introduced.

Maybe I just see this as lowballing while still remaining close to the concept you wish. Always better to underpower I think, but what do you think of making the class similar to the Archmage? Similar in that various abilities are granted, possibly costing spell slots.

Heck, I'd love to see a whole slew of feats ala whatever it's called...erm...Tome & Blood for divine classes. Anyway, it introduced a bunch of feats that were special abilities powered by turn attempts. I can think of a ton of things you can do with elemental focus using that template.

The channel ability is 1d6+1 per level of elemental tempest. So it would be increasing a d6+1 per level of the PrC to a max of 5d6+5 at 5th level. I may need to reword that to make it clearer.

Its meant to be a higher level PrC, not one reach at typical PrC levels. One average, the earliest a character would actual get to take a level of tempest would be 11th or 12th level.

Didn't get much feedback or notice, so I put it on the back burner for the time being.

Sorry I never said so before, but I love this PrC!

The only thing I would want to change is the amount of damage the channel elements does. 5d6+5 elemental damage seems pretty weak for a 12th level character, but then again, all they have to do is take extra turning a few time and they could do this all day.

Maybe if the damage were able to be increased by expending more turning attempts, say like for expending 4 turning attempts, the damage is increased to 1d8+2 per elemental tempest level, so it would max out at 5d8+10?

Anyway, that is all I got as far as comments.

Thanks.

I purposely kept the damage low for that exact reason. If they take extra turning they can use the ability several times a day.
