well, technicaly you do put the cheers thing after everything so would that not be considered a signature?

Well, yeah, but I type it out each time.

I third Cams notion to have the sig reduced. I would rather use a simple picture, but we can't do that on WoTC boards. I stand before you a changed man (reducing my signature from a half page to what you see now).

What does this all have to do with the original question?

I think that if you were to depart from the DLCS and the other books out there you would be doing a disservice to the players and to yourself. It also would depend though on what version you would be playing in? 1st, 2nd?

I have to agree with trey on this. The dlcs is a fantastic and useful tool. You should take advantage of the hard work people have done to make a DM's job easier.

Mine is longer than it was, but it's chock full of clickable goodness.

We can't all be creative, can we?

I just don't seem to want to share as much, apparently.

As far as the topic at hand goes, I don't think there's anything stopping you from running Dragonlance without the DLCS. You won't have a lot of crunchy rules and background, but you could probably make do without. When I first wrote up the Heroes of the Lance and made conversion notes for DL1 and DL2, all I had was the PHB, DMG and MM for 3.0.

Cheers,
Cam

making your own adventures is both fun and a challenge, especially since not many are published to help DMs out!

I think it depends on what you're going to do with it. If this is for your own personal use, go for it! If it's to be put on the web, be careful on copyright issues.

The PHB can be used to represent a variety of roles without using prestige classes and what not. A Crown Knight can be just a fighter, a Sword Knight can be a paladin, and all you need for a WoHS is the base wizard class.

I do recommend taking advantage of the existing work out there, so that you're not (example) creating draconian stats when they already exist.

As far as your sig - I'm afraid I have to concur. Way too long, and busy enough that people wouldn't want to read through it all. My own sig is very simple - enough to have a link to the Nexus, my real name, and a quote I like from Firefly. It's up to you as to what you put in it, of course, but it would be a courtesy to other board members if you shortened it. Perhaps focus on an item in your sig that means the most to you?

Is this the place to talk about his sig when all he is asking is about DL questions?

I think that the 2nd Best of Tales book has the Anvil of Time module in it. It was published before the campaign setting was and has the conversion from the players handbook for DL.

He asked about his sig too.

My response above was primarily about DL, with only a note on the sig because he asked.

No he didn't. That was just Cam and I getting rowdy. We're awfully sorry, DH. See what happens when you let us in the liquor cabinet? Nothing good comes of it.

If the adventures came out in a timely manner I would say by all means use them, but that is dependant upon what time you are playing in and the fact that they are not dependably published. Making your own is fun too!

A bit off subject, but this thread has piqued my curiosity...I am wondering if anyone has done a complete conversion of the original modules to 3.0 or 3.5 and successfully played through all of them? I noticed Cam's 3.0 versions of the Dragons of Despair and Dragons of Flame, which were very well put-together in my opinion (good work!), but not any of the others. If no one has then I think I might do a conversion of the Silver Anniversary edition of the War of the Lance for my group, as that's all I have available to me without spendng money on the original modules.

There is supposed to be a 3.5 conversion for the original modules coming out this year.

Yes, but I understand it 'Dragons of Autumn' is coming out in November. And as I've already started running DL1 using a combination of Cam's conversion and my own work from the silver anniversary edition, I don't want to put everything on hold until November.

That said, I am really really looking forward to their release nonetheless.
