Belcadiz Origin
by John CalvinI think we should start gathering as many canon sources as possible here. I'll organise those in this first post, so that we can keep track of them all.
BC 2500
- The followers of Ilsundal were the forebears of virtually all the elves in the known world. Nothing has been heard from the southern continent elves since the long march of the Returnist elves, although the Belcadiz elves of Glantri claim to be descendants of a similar group who left the southern continent some 300 years after Ilsundal.
GAZ3, page 6
[Note: No date given with entry, but we know Ilsundal leaves Vulcania in BC 2800. Thus from this entry we can assume that the Belcadiz were part of the Second Separatists.]2200 BC
- Southern elves move into the frozen valleys of Glantri.
GAZ3, page 5BC 1700
- Centuries after Blackmoor's destruction (see DA1 for details), elves from the far south colonise this area. They form several large clans... then they discover a Blackmoor artifact. For reasons unknown, the device explodes, causing catastrophe in the frozen valleys. Billowing clouds form in the skies, and the sun disappears for years. Ice storms and blizzards rule over the land. A strange disease that rots flesh and withers all that grows spreads throughout the valleys. The elves find shelter in the deepest caves of Glantri, leaving behind only a few runes engraved in the rock. Today, elven legends tell of a few tribes that emerged from caves hundreds of miles south, past the Broken Lands.
GAZ3, page 4
[Note: No date given with this entry, but based on other discussions and other events we know this happens in BC 1700]- Local cataclysm. The elves disappear and the Broken Lands become unstable.
Gaz3 - pg 5BC 1000
- On the Alphatians' world, the war between the Followers of Air and Followers of Flame reaches its zenith. The Followers of Flame are defeated. Alphaks is banished. Old Alphatia is destroyed; the Followers of Air come to the Known World to settle (Alphatian Landfall).
DotE - pg 6BC 800
- Nine centuries later, the ice recedes to the north and a new race occupies the valleys. They are men... alien to this world. They call themselves the Flaems...
Gaz3, pg. 4AC 395
- The Flaems colonise the lands; the radiance is discovered in Glantri.
Gaz3 - pg 5- The surviving Followers of the Flame, now calling themselves Flaems, arrive from their long journeys and settle in the land that will one day be called Glantri.
DotE - pg 6AC 400
- Flaemish explorers investigating their new world realise that the Followers of Air have built themselves a mighty empire in the East.
DotE - pg 6AC 450
- The city of Braejr is built.
Gaz3 - pg 5circa AC 500
- The elves have been here much longer [than Kaarstel the Forester's people, who came to the Glantrian Highlands before the Flaems] - as long ago as two thousand years, maybe three. Something terrible happened in these lands once a long time ago, but the elves won't talk about that. When we arrived, the better part of a century ago [the Flaems arrived around 80 years ago, according to the novel], there were just a few bands of wanderers and wild elves here in these northern parts. They left when we came.
Dragonlord of Mystara, page 23AC 730
- Settlers come to Glantri; frictions begin between Flaemish and settlers.
Gaz3 - pg 5- Thyatian settlers reach Flaemish lands and frictions quickly develop with the Flaemish. In Alphatia, the philosophies of the wizardess Mylertendal begin catching the popular imagination.
DotE - pg 7AC 784
- A Thyatian settler kills a Flaemish lord; war is declared.
Gaz3 - pg 5- A Thyatian settler kills a Flaemish lord.
DotE - pg 7AC 785
- Battle of Braejr; settlers are driven south of the Vesuvia.
Gaz3 - pg 5- In Glantri, Thyatian settlers and elvish allies are beaten by the Flaemish at the Battle of Braejr.
DotE - pg 7AC 786
- An Alphatian lord named Halzunthram arrives in Flaemish lands, sides with the Thyatian/Elvish coalition, and defeats the Flaems, effectively assuming control of the area.
DotE - pg 7AC 788
- The Flaemish are defeated at the Battle of Braastar; Halzunthram captures the council; Glantri becomes an Alphatian dominion; elves become independent; the Flaemish revolt.
Gaz3 - pg 5- Halzunthram takes control of region's ruling council and declares the area a protectorate of Alphatia. The elves claim independence; the Flaems and Thyatians unite against Halzunthram.
DotE - pg 7AC 900
- This brought many more humans to the region, primarily a large expedition from the Thyatian Empire far to the east. Sent by Emperor Gabrionus IV, the people who came to the Savage Coast were from a particular ethnic group among the Kerendan people of the Empire, the Ispans. Like other Kerendans, Ispans were olive -skinned, dark-haired, and fond of efficiency and fighting ability; unlike other Kerendans, Ispans also possessed a fair amount of wanderlust.

- The Flaems discover the Radiance, a strange magical force radiating from the intersection of the Vesubia and Isoile rivers. There, they build a great capital, Braejr, and thrive for another three centuries. Then, elves reappear from the south.
Braving the dangers of the Broken Lands, southern elves find a trail back to Glantri. Historians believe them to be the missing elven tribes, returning to claim their lost realm. News spread fast, and soon clans of fair elves and humans from Traladara (now known as Karameikos) and Thyatis settle in Glantri, attracted by rumours of the strange magical force.
GAZ3, page 4- "La Princesa" rules over the southern elves. They came from a far land, beyond the seas of Thanegioth.
