Blodørn Daugr (Blood Eagle Lich)
by Marc Saindon(The image featured here is to avoid more gory material some people might not want to see)
This is a unique type of Lich that is produced (rarely) in the Northern Reaches by an execution through the process of the blood eagle (a torturous rite which some historical doubts about its practice). I won't give all the details, but if you know about Vikings, you've probably heard of it.
The subject must survive the entire ordeal without flinching, screaming, or crying, in a manner to prove his 'honor' his saved. He also must be not at all honorable and truly guilty of what despicable act he did - thus neither Hel or Odin have dominion over his soul. Which cuts that person from Mystara's the loop of reincarnation. You could also take a cue from Savage Worlds, pick from a deck of cards, and if either Jokers pop up, the person becomes a Blodorn Draugr (Blood Eagle Lich). Because of this inherent danger of this method of execution, it's thus not used very lightly, only for the worst offenses for those who truly want their honor saved.
Obviously, once transformed, the Blodorn Draugr goes on a killing spree, maybe creating lesser versions of itself (Zombies and such) by doing so. For stat blocks, one can take inspiration with Pointy Hat's Fighter Lich, the Death March. It could also doom a community to the Ravenloft setting, with the Blodorn Draugr as its resident lord.
These guys are obviously not common, often more refered to as a cautionary tale, than actually seen by anyone once every few centuries.
