Expansion to the general skill rules
by HåvardI like the rules for non-adventurers gaining skills/skill slots. I might allow this for PCs too if they take a year off adventuring.
Giving additional slots spent on a skill the effect of improving the outcome of skills as well as the +1 bonus to the skill roll is a cool idea.
I have toyed with the following expansion to the general skill rules:
With the successful roll of a skill check/ability score check, the player may roll 1d6:
- if the character possesses the skill, add the ability score adjustment
- if additional skill slots have been spent on the skill, add +1 per skill slot not counting the skill slot spent to acquire the skill
If the skill check comes up a natural 1, roll 1d4+2 instead of 1d6.
The result gives players and the DM an idea of the quality of the task performed:
1: Poor
2-4: Average
5-6: Good
7-9: Excellent
10+: Spectacular.
