Havfolk (5.5 Circle of the Sea Druid subclass)

by Marc Saindon

The Havfolk or "Sea People" (I'll avoid saying "Sea Men" at a table with less mature players) of the Havfolk are Vanir worshippers who honor the sea with both respect and fear, calling upon the names of Njord, Ran, Aegir, the Nine Mothers of the Waves, and of course the Kraken. Neutral Good Havfolk follow Njord as a patron, while the rarer Neutral Evil ones honor Ran in typical Game of Thrones Greyjoy fashion of "drowned men for the drowned god" (they aren't popular).

They're common in Ostland villages that still follow the Old Ways (where Aesir worship hasn't supplanted Vanir tradition), especially among the fishermen and sailors, as well distant Qeodhar and the Isle of Dawn colonies. A few could be found in the coastline of Soderfjord and Vestland.

One secret they have is access to a realm of the Good Kingdom (Feywild equivalent of Mystara) which one could call the "Sea of Legends" (which the neighborood celtic-like Dunadale people call "Llyr"), basically the Sea of Dawn dialed up to 11 with merfolk, sea monsters, sirens, etc. (Basically, this the Ostland map, but with human settlements removed and a lot more monsters). Sometimes, strange mists rise, and the barrier between worlds in thinner, allowing something to pass on the other side, and the Havfolk need to deal with it (possibly teaming up with Qeodhar Helmsmen).
