Magic Crockery

by Jamie Baty

Witching Doll: This crude, poorly constructed child's toy hides a sinister power. By attaching something owned by or from another creature (like a scrape of clothing or some hair), the doll morphs into a very crude likeness of the person. Once per day, the owner of the doll may inflict some type of damage onto the doll and it will affect the person linked to the doll. Spells cast at the doll will affect the person, physical damage to the doll will manifest on the victim- pins in the doll cause stabbing damage, putting it over fire will cause burning damage to the victim. Spells cast on the doll must only target the doll and can only affect the victim (no AOE spells or spells that target an area), and physical damage caused to the victim cannot exceed 1d6 damage, though the pain caused is quite disabling, limiting the victim to 1/2 movement, a single action per round, and a -2 penalty to all saving throws, skill checks and to hit and damage rolls. A save vs Death Ray limits the pain to 3 rounds. On a failed save, the pain lasts for 3 turns. Range is determined by how the doll is linked. If linked by something owned by the victim, the range is 8 miles. If linked by something of the victim, like hair or fingernail, the range is 24 miles. If linked by the victim's blood, the range is 72 miles.

A Remove Curse spell will temporarily spare the victim of the effects for one week. The connection may be permanently broken through a Dispel Evil spell, a Remove Curse cast by a 25th level or higher caster, or by destroying the doll (a very painful experience for the victim until the doll is completely destroyed).
