Magic Dolls

by David Shepheard

Living Doll: This is not actually a doll, but is in fact a member of a small humanoid race that was magically transformed to look like dolls in the ancient past. A small number of living dolls pretend to be magical dolls in order to trick people or steal things from people, but most of them are honest. A few living dolls make money acting as a security guard in a store or acting as a body guard for a child. A living doll does everything any other humanoid can do, including crying, talking, sleeping and walking, but is able to feign death at will, if it wants to pretend to be a real doll. Living dolls have a spell-like ability that is identical to the Knock spell. It is believed they developed this ability shortly after the time they were transformed into doll-like shapes, because the transformational magic of the wizard who first created living dolls was still in flux-in their bodies and the wizard had a habit of locking the living dolls up in trunks in an effort to prevent them from being stolen.
