Emerald Roof Valley
by WingofCootPermanent Population: 2,000 treants; 100 dryads; 60 sprites
This large (20 miles long and 12 miles wide) but shallow (floor elevation 1600'-1800') valley in the uplands is filled with predominantly oak forest. It has a closed canopy, but it is less dense and much less tangled with large vines than the Evershadow.
Chestnut trees are common, and contribute to an extremely rich nut-fall along with the vast number of acorns. Hickory, elm, and pine also grow here.
The primary permanent intelligent inhabitants of this area are treants, though they have no large communities or fixed settlements, living only in small groups of less than ten individuals scattered through the forest. Some of these live alongside dryads, and two tiny communities of sprites (about 20 each) are found in the upper branches.
Many of the centaur bands that roam the uplands visit the valley at times, harvesting fallen nuts, but none of them live here permanently. Hsiao flocks also often stay here for a while on their irregular movements through the region.
