Map of the Grand Duchy of Terentias

by Sven Jeske

A bit late to the party, but if anyone is still interested ... here is my 2-mile-hex map of Terentias.

Some Notes about places on the map:

Lake Amare is a traditional meeting place for romantic encounters.

Hangman Creek is a sign for the somewhat bizarre humor of the locals: there is a huge gallow tree at the source of the river, where the most notorious pirates are hanged. Of course, this being an island ruled by pirates, there has never anyone been executed there. The tree is kept for ... well, just in case.

Telemon Isle is a beautiful tiny island, that is uninhabited and a restricted area – it is the designated meeting place if the high-ups of Terentia have any dealings with the Sea Peoples (mostly, but not exclusively, the Aquarendi sea elves).

Mount Mactator is the highest place on the island, with 3535 feet. Nearby on the slopes is the Summer Palace, the traditional residence of the Archduke during the hot and wet scirocco summer season. The Palace is known for its beautiful gardens, and the collection of treasures and objects of art from centuries of piracy. Not open for the public, sorry.

The Iron Mine is in use since Etrusnan times at least 2500 years ago; it still yields ore, but the tunnels to reach this are really deep and far by now.

Tuillar An is a village of about 600 inhabitants, 90% of them elves. It is something of a place for Elvish traditionalists.

Aldanodeum is the only other village on the island, with about 450 people living there. Nothing unusual here.

South Beach is a resort for rich people on vacation; it boasts the best beach on the island.

The four forts didn’t serve any real military purpose for at least 400 years but are in places where fortifications have been since the Etrusnan people settled here. The places and names have stuck, however.

Fort Vielas serves as a naval academy now, where aspiring captains and navigators learn their trade.

Fort Gaianus is a tourist attraction – from the top of the tower you have the most breathtaking view over the sea in the north. Also, some guys from the Archduke’s personal guard, called the “Homeguard”, keep watch from the top of the tower for approaching enemies – clad in ancient ridiculous-looking uniforms from centuries back, and performing strange rituals of “changing the guard” for happy spectators. It also has the best and most expensive restaurant on Terentias.

The tower of Fort Verdian is home of a mysterious ancient elven magic-user, only known as “The Catalyst”. He (or is it she?) keeps to himself and does not welcome any visitors.

Fort Vedium has been converted to a “Historical Museum of Terentias” by a distant relative of the Archduke with strange hobbies. Here you can find the eldest known humanmade object of the isle, a stone knife allegedly 4500 years old, attributed to the Albai people; a single dragon tooth from a beast allegedly slain here 700 years ago; a scabbard made of human skin that should hold the legendary intelligent bronze sword “Thumbbreaker” (the whereabouts of which are unknown), and many other totally obscure objects.
