Quests from the Infinite Staircase: Explicit Mystara references
by HåvardSo we already have a thread about Zargon in the 5e adventure Quests from the Infinite Staircase, but I wanted to make a separate thread to cover the rest of what could be relevant for the MIystara community in this book.
I bought the book yesterday, so I have yet to do a deep analysis, but just skimming through it I am finding the following:
Explicit References
- Mystara mentioned as one of three possible locations for the Lost City. The text says that if placed in Mystara, the Lost City would be located somewhere in the Alasiyian Desert in the Known World.
Implicit References and comments
- Deep cut: The Infinite Staircase was originally an AD&D 2nd Edtion adventure, but we also have CM8 Endless Stair from 1988.
- The Lost City of Cynidicea is of course based on B4 and as mentioned above gets the location it was given in the Expert Set map.
- I really like the way the Cynidicean Masks are illustrated in this adventure. Were they always described as made out of bronze?
- The cults of Gorm, Madarua and Usamigaras are described in detail. I see no mention of Usamigaras being a halfling in life.
- Zargon and his cult are detailed! - see discussion here.
- When a Star Falls: I like the whole falling star concept, but this adventure would take some adaptation to be used with Mystara. Recommended settings in the book are Eberron, FR and Greyhawk.
- Beyond the Crystal Cave: Recommended settings are Dragonlance, Eberron and Theros(!), but parts are set in the Feywild so that would make it easier to connect to Mystara. Lots of fey and sylvan creatures appear as do Leprechauns.
- Pharaoh: This module was not written for Mystara, but Gaz2 the Emirates of Ylaruam does include it as a recommended adventure to run there. The 5E book includes recommendations for Dragonlance, Eberron and Greyhawk.
