Animals & Monsters in the Sylvan Highlands
by WingofCootAnimals of many kinds appropriate to a relatively warm temperate forest & hills abound here. The only dinosaurs in this area are small ones no larger than an adult elf or human, and the area is too warm for many characteristic 'ice age' creatures like woolly mammoths, but a few mammal megafauna species may be found in parts of the area (great boars, cave bears, saber-toothed cats, and a type of forest bison).
Besides the two primary intelligent species of the area - elves and centaurs - a small number of woodland faerie folk (dryads, pixies, sprites) live here, though their primary center on Jomphur is farther north. More common (away from the centers of elven settlement) are such woodland creatures as blink dogs, hsiao, treants, and unicorns.
Dangerous monsters avoid the central valley, which is quite safe; the only large predator is the black bear, which is generally not aggressive toward the elves.
Outside the central valley, any of the following may be encountered:
