Shrines: Holy War?
by Marc SaindonCuius regio, eius religio
the religion of the ruler was to dictate the religion of those ruledBack to my idea that a Shrine provides Clerics (and Paladins, or Druids and Rangers with the Menhirs-Dolmens monuments) with the benefit of turning a Short Rest into a Long Rest once per day if they are of the appropriate faith, perhaps one hex (8 miles) can only support one shrine (which still has to be supplied with monthly prayers and offerings). A shrine can accommodate multiple Immortals, provided they share a pantheon (which can even be an extended pantheon, like the Vanir-Aesir alliance). Two shrines of competing faiths in the same turf causes divine attention to fizzle out. Shrines can become greater temples with sufficient resources, although the map hex gains no further benefits.
This provides a rivalry between Thyatis and Ylaruam. And between Heldannic Knights and Freeholders. Or Thyatians and Traladarans.
Perhaps the Shrine's influence also dampens the influence of the Radiance, explaining why Glantri is hostile to Clerics.
The mechanic could justify religious conflicts, or provide quest material for Stronghold & Dominion level of management.
