Technology and Architecture

by Håvard

As mentioned, this is a Stone Age culture, but that does not mean that the Neathar are ignorant or stupid. They have a great understanding of the things they need to know for their survival. They also have a well developed culture including areas such as art, music, life wisdom and beliefs. Some of this will be covered when I get to the section about Lifestyle and Culture, but let us first look at their technology and architecture.

Tools and weapons
As a Stone Age culture, the Neathar create most of their tools and weapons from stone, bone and wood. They make ground stone heads for their weapons. They can sometimes create armor out of animal hides or bones (treat as leather armor). Their preferred weapons are spears, javelins, bows, knives, hand axes, nets and blowguns. They know how to manipulate soft metals such as copper and gold, but do not know how to forge items from bronze or iron. The Neathar have mastered the use of fire and can make pottery out of clay for cooking or preservation of food or other items. They also have an impressive knowledge of plants for use as food, painting, medicine, poison, drugs or mild hallucinogenics sometimes used in religious ceremonies. Although they are illiterate, they have learned to make paintings in caves or rock sides from the Brute Men that can communicate more information than outsiders understand. The Neathar also use sticks, wood carvings and smoke signals to leave messages to other tribes or communicate via long distances.

Architecture
The Toralai live in semi-permanent huts made from wood and bison hides. These can be disassembled as the tribe moves with the bison herds. They typically have different settlements for each season. A Toralai village is often surrounded by poles or wooden markers to signal their territory. These markers can be decorated with carvings, paints and bison skulls. The markers are sometimes enchanted with protective spells. The most impressive architectural achievements of the Neathar are the stone circles ranging from circles of smaller menhirs to huge monuments linked to the movement of celestial bodies and seasons. These are used in rituals lead by powerful Neathar druids and are belived to channel powerful magic.
