Terrapin Swamp Folk

by Marc Saindon

Tortles account for 5% of Cimarron's population, which roughly means there's 900 of them.

Perhaps they form a small community in the Sierra Desperada swamps of Cimarron, a bit like Cajun settlements in East Texas (Piney Woods), although I'd avoid giving them the French Cajun accent (more appropriate for Gator folk to the west) and just have them speak Slag (so maybe more Hillbilly than Cajun). They differ from other Tortles as they're more accustomed to fresh water than than to the sea, and have adjusted to the dominant human culture. Wedged between Gnoll raiders and Goblin raiders, the Terrapin Swamp folk keep a strong alliance with the humans (who don't want their swamps anyway) and many have traditionally worked the docks in Smokestone City (a sort of "Dock Dynasty").
