Ahomean Poisoner (Assassin 5e Rogue re-skin)

by Marc Saindon

A quick one to expand the lore. With the region of the Tangor Gulf (dubbed "Ahomey" by filing a letter from Dahomey) being surprisingly more urban than would be expected (mainly concentrated in dense city-states), the crowded lower class neighborhoods tend to produce its fair share of rogues (you'll have your Thief subclass expectedly there) and roguish guilds.

Also of note are numerous Herbalists that emerge from Ahomey culture -- being more centered around Druids than Clerics -- tending gardens, collecting spices, trading remedies and offering minor healing services (the Druids, few in numbers, are often called upon for more important projects by the upper caste). Within that market of herbal treatments are networks of less scrupulous individuals pushing various intoxicants (chem dealers), spice merchants who cut their products with less stock, vendors who promise cures that don't actually work (charlatans), and the odd shopkeeper that can accelerate inheritances (or get back at a rival).

The last case, the Ahomean Poisoner, is a frequent phenomenon in the city-states, often making local politics a bit like Game of Thrones. One ring of poisoners allegedly triggered enough chaos that it led to the downfall of the Nameless Dead City, when the population fell to incessant infighting. On the other hand, Ahomean Spearmen do tip their spears in poison when going against major threats (although useful against Minean raiders, it is useless against the growing threat of the undead).

The poisoner can have different builds: a Charisma-based court infiltrator or shopkeeper (with a "special backstore"), a Dex-based blowgun expert, an Intelligence-focused toxicology researcher (who may also dual-class as an Artificer of the Alchemist subclass), so a ring can a variety of talent. Adventures might involve gathering new plants and animal components as ingredients, research poisons that affect undead, eliminate rival gangs, or serve the interests of a noble. They will typically masquerade as legitimate herbalists, which is such a common profession in Ahomey that it is unlikely to attract any suspicion.
