Thoughts on Akalis

by Geoff Gander

Akalis is the region of Selhomarr most likely to be visited first by a party leaving from Iciria, and appropriately it's only the tip of the iceberg in presenting the setting. The nortwestern tip is pastoral and lightly populated, but the land empties out fairly quickly as one goes inland. The Plains of Aymira to the south are dry and windswept, and bear evidence of several (failed) attempts to tame the land. Thorfinn rightly points out the oddity of Erlan's Gorge - what was so special about it that led people to actually found a settlement there, and what happened to it?

Thorfinn brought the key geographical feature of this province to life - the two plateaus (neither anywhere close to the Atruaghin Plateau in sheer massiveness) that each rise almost 1000 feet over the surrounding lands.

Incidentally, from that height you could stand on any point along the edge of the northern escarpment and see the nearest coastline - including Solelnamir, Tamrestanyos, Arstina, and Dedremii - and from any of those places the cliffs would be a thin band on the horizon.
