So after last weeks velociraptor, a small raptor, we're up to the mid sized ones now.

Its likely that deinonychus was a solitary predator, but of course working out details of social organisation in dinosaur species is complex! But from isotope studies it doesn't look like the young had similar diets to older specimens so its unlikely they were pack animals. Its actually kind of fuzzy whether thats a common thing in raptors at all.

Anyway, deinonychus is an iconic dinosaur and I hope you enjoy it.

Deinonychus are medium sized dromaeosaurs, standing around 4’ tall and stretching up to 9’ long including their stiff tails. They are fast, but not as rapid as some of their relatives such as velociraptor, and they are capable predators.

They are solitary predators, occasionally found as a pair but typically preferring to live and hunt alone. They chase down prey and try to kill it with both stab wounds from their huge toe claws, and with a bight attack.

They are thickly feathered while not capable of flight they are effectively immune to falling damage due to being able to flap, and they can leap surprising distances, flapping to avoid larger predators.
