Dwarven vampires as "Kinslayer" threat

by Marc Saindon

Dwarves of Rockhome has at least one vampire (Redtooth, p.95), and one idea is that family and clan is utmost for a dwarf, a Dwarf cursed with vampirism could indulge in kinslaying, getting a rush, sustenance and an accelaration of his aging (and thus power) each time he feeds on a fellow dwarf (1 year), a former clan mate (5 years) and his immediate family (10 years). They can still feed on humans and other demihumans, but it would not be as satisfying for them. Hence they don't flee Rockhome much (so are rarely seen outside of it) to keep getting dwarf blood supplied to them, and thus are unknown outside of Rockhome (it's also something Dwarves don't like talking about).

The Dwarf Kinslayer is a horror story for Dwarves, who like having large families and celebrate ancient genealogies, while this bogeyman just eats through them, and use to be part of their clan.

Individual Kinslayer might at first run as your basic addict, going on killing sprees, but as they get more powerful and cunning, they might cycle their activities over longer periods, allowing a clan to repopulate a bit, and go on a "Reaping" every 27 years (a nod to Pennywise) or some sort generational cycle.
