It is related to Nixies, Nökk and other water fey. These creatures live near water falls and cannot leave their home stream or river for extended periods. On Mystara, the Fossegrims are most commonly found in the Northern Reaches, Norwold and in northern Skothar.
Fossegrims are expert players of the fiddle. Anyone listening to one play must make a Save vs. Paralysis or become charmed. In combat, the Fossegrim may wield a dagger or spear. However, Fossegrims are usually benign and may be persuaded to teach music skills to those willing to learn in exchange for mutton which they love.
Fossegrims will ward off undead and other evil creatures from their home stream. They are natural enemies of the Nökk, another Norse Fey, who will often try to destroy the Fossergim's fiddle.
Invisibility to Mortals: Like all fairies, the Fossegrim can become Invisible to Mortals. While invisible the Fossegrim is -4 to hit. It can remain invisible in combat.
While keeping its feet in water, the Fossegrim will regenerate 5 Hp per round.
Norse Fairies: One group of fairies made a deal with the Immortal Odin. Staying out of the war with the Immortals, Odin granted them protection on the Outer Planes of Vanaheim and Alfheim. Fossegrims will sometimes be seen performing at the courts of Freyj and Freyja.
Fossegrims first appeared in Deities & Demigods for AD&D.
