Heldannic Freeholder

by Marc Saindon

Yes, this kit is vastly under-powered. So what would be the options to make it an interesting role?

First: setting. Initially, I was thinking of slavic Traladarans opposing the Thyatians with pitchforks and torches, but I think going to the Heldannic lands ("Iceland turned into Prussia"). Sure the orders of the Heldannic Knights now run the show, but maybe there's a resistance growing, and thus it would produce the type of Peasant Hero that would go up against the "Do as we say Festival" of the cavaliers.

Peasant Heroes lack resources but find support.

Perhaps at level 9 (BECMI system), once they get to the Name level, they may receive the ability ("Jacquerie") to trigger a peasant uprising that claims a dominion hex (maybe one's Charisma bonus can increase the amount of hexes claimed). It can be an anarcho-syndicalist commune, or something akin to the Germanic Peasant Republics or Wilhelm Tell's Switzerland. Robin Hood's Merry Men also come to mind. Isolated regions are likely to survive longer the political fallout (and the knightly retaliation).
