The Geonid Path

by WingofCoot

While now scattered, the geonids are one of the ancient, truly native intelligences of Vaniae. They are found in the hills and mountains of the southern hemisphere - especially around Hellas.

Geonids live in bands or small tribes which are led by "priests" - but these are really more analogous to human mystics than clerics. Their path is elemental transcendence - slowly replacing the body with elemental Earth - explaining their unusual strength and resilience.

Most geonids live about 200-220 local years. Priests live longer - but at about 300, they must further pursue their transformation to survive. They leave the band they lead, meditate near a vortex to Elemental Earth for several years, and eventually enter the Elemental Plane itself - when they do so, they transform fully into an Earth Elemental.

This path can be pursued by Vaniae's other semi-mineral natives - sandfolk and rock men - but not "biological" creatures such as humans, Grens, minotaurs, etc.
