The "Empire of the Great Khan" revised
by Marc SaindonSo we already have a Great Khan in Ethengar, Moglai Khan. Two Mongolian Empires is redundant. And scary. One is dangerous enough, even if surrounded by mountains. And having Alphatia going against Khans is repetitive of Glantri going against Khans (KHAAAN!).
So there is no Empire of the Great Khan.
What happens here is a bit like Columbus calling Native Americans "Indians" because he's geographically clueless and they have darker skin. Alphatian explorers who learn about Skothar, mostly through second hand accounts, hear about a nomadic kingdom in the Far East of Skothar, and being already familiar with the Ethengar Khanates, just lump the group as also being Khanates.
Except none of them are Asian or Mongolians. As Jennites, they are very Caucasian-European, practicing a culture similar to Scythians and Cimmerians, building impressive burial mounds for their kings, and crafting exquisite gold jewelry (gold imported from Tangor for which they exchange cattle and wool).
The "Empire of the Great Khan" is perhaps a mistranslation of the "the Land of Many Kurgans", the burial mounds for which one excellent Highlander villain takes his name from. It would be a sacred land for the Jennites, and home to hundreds of 5-room dungeons to plunder.
