Expanding the Northern Reaches: the Oath of Heimdallr Paladin

by Marc Saindon

a quick idea I had way back was to split the worship of norse Immortals between Vanir-worshippers, led by Spa-Kona (Druids), and Aesir-worshippers, led by Godi (Clerics). One branch of Aesir worship could involve the emulation of Heimdall as a eternally vigilitant guardian, and these admirers can become the equivalent of Paladins, rather than a path of Barbarian. Maybe when they smite, it causes a quick rainbow flash ('taste the rainbow, troll!'). A lot of their would involve serving as bailifs in courts or manning defensive towers in the Vestland borders, powers and feats would develop along the lines of defending a person or a location, and detecting enemies. The horn might serve as a holy symbol, allowing to turn undead by sounding it.

for 5e, this could work as the Oath of Vigilance from Tasha's Cauldron, tweaked a bit to fit norse themes.
