Thoughts on Hattians and Plague
by Robingiving the nasty destruction of Zadreth....A rapid plague brought in by Lugsid attacking Thyatians(Hattians) and unaware refugees/Merchants from Lugsid furthering the plague into the region. And within a few days while the Thyatians raze Lugsid to the ground the disease runs rampant in Zadreth. Then the Thyatians on an attacking vesses discover where the refugees of Lugsid went (beyond Fogor Isle) into Zadreth, and make an attack on the highly sick and weakened population of Zadreth with Catapults with fire ammunition and then personal invasion after their vessel is subjected by a warp wood spell from the local clergy. Again the people flee, back to Lugsid, where the survivors have huddled together on Fogor Island while Lugsid is aflame (including stacks of dead people, Locals as well as Thyatians fallen to the disease. It makes me question though..... what have the Hattians with Plagues?? do they create these? are these imposed on them due their actions by revenge/curse/immortal artifact side effects/lack of hygiene or else?
Or was it a Demon like Thanatos
Either of these might explain the Hattian hate towards mages and witches particularly. So Three Hattian/Thyatian plague sources we know or suspect
788AC-828AC; Glantri, North Darokin, Ethengar, Heldann, Broken Lands; Glantrian War with Alphatians, Flaems revolt with Thyatian(most probably Hattian as seen by surviving hattian names like von Drachenfels) settlers. Full Blown Plague follows (even though the dwarves are suspected and exterminated)
900AC;Karameikos(Lugsid); not spreading beyond the region due possible mountains restricting movement and rapid extermination following, It is clear though the Hattians were unaware of them bringing the curse, yet blamed the locals when it revealed itself, by burning the towns, and thereby winning the region to themselves, and inadvertenly stop the plague from spreading further
1007AC-1010AC; Heldann, Ethengar, Glantri, Broken Lands, Vestland ; Fulll Blown spreading Heldann, Glantri, Vestland, Ethengar, North Darokin, Broken Lands, only halted by clerical magic allowed in Glantri, some pockets I believe to remember still reside in Heldann, and now and then it pops up in Glantri rapidly supressed by the now available clergy.
All in all the Hattians, despite their available clerics are often the first location of appearance of the disease, as well as the hardest hit by it.
All again by Hattians (even though the Dwarves were blamed -- due their high saves/immunity), the first Thyatians in Glantri seem to be the actual source of the Plague. So it might be very possible Thanatos or someone similar is messing with the Hattians for some reason. We know he did meddle severely in the WotI affair, and was punished severely by letting the Radiance drain ((source WotI, Almanacs) until in 1013AC this was reversed(who/why/how is unknown...yet as Bruce Heard said, killing death is a feeble task, death will always circumvent any opposition....and so apparantly death did.
