Kip Littleshade - The krondar of Stillpool

by Beau Yarbrough

Stillpool, Seashire is a farming village of just under 400 souls that borders a small spring-fed pool. In hot weather, the village is plagued by mosquitoes and other insects. The village's half-timbered homes stand amongst widely spaced tall and ancient pines.

The village lays on the north-south road leading from Fishtickle Bridge to Burny in the south. The northwestern edge of town has a number of small factories, including a famous wheelwright's shop and a good smithy.

The village has one inn - the Running Hin - and two taverns - the Seven Swords and the Pineview. Stillpool is a quiet place, and the residents emphatically prefer it that way.

Lawful Neutral male halfling krondar

Kip Littleshade is a lifelong resident of Stillpool, Seashire. He's graduated from being a busybody and something of a bully to being a krondar by dint of impressing the right sheriff at the right time. In truth, Stillpool's quiet has little to do with Kip, but he's glad to take credit for it when meeting with his superior. He's easily pushed around by the town's clan elders - especially the elders of Clan Littleshade - which means they tend to support his role as the town's sole law enforcement official.

Kip is a wiry halfling with close-cropped brown hair, a red nose and perpetually flushed cheeks. Except during the darkest days of winter, he is always sweaty, fanning himself with a filthy handkerchief and drinking prodigious amounts of alcohol. He is never seen not wearing his krondar's tunic and with his rod of justice in his hand, which he often uses as a back scratcher.

A dull-witted (Wisdom 8) slave to the rules, Kip cares about few things other than being able to get along in life doing as little work as possible, being able to tell people what to do and - for those rare moments it's possible - finding some relief from the constant biting of Stillpool's insect population, who seem to find him irresistible.

Kip is of average intelligence, but is slow-witted, lazy and more interested in giving orders than doing actual work himself. The few times he's been called on to investigate a problem, he used bullying and intimidation to get answers, although if one of the Stillpool clans provided him with a ready-made scapegoat, he did not hesitate to agree with them. As a result, he's on a first-name basis with the clan elders of the area, along with their errand boys.

Kip loves to constantly chew tobacco, but he's a real slob about it, and flecks of chewing tobacco coat his lips and tobacco stains dot his clothes and feet.
