Karameikos In Chaos!

by Eric Forster

I had planned to create a campaign taking place in the Kingdom of Karameikos, involving the Song Of Halav. According to history, King Halav did one-on-one battle with the king of the beastmen, and was victorius. In the campaign I was planning, the PCs find clues as to history being wrong. Has they investigate a trail of clues, they encounter a cult whose main purpose is to prove King Halav was not the hero history has made him out to be. The cult isn't evil, just misunderstood. They lead the PCs to an ancient tomb containing what appears to be a simple bronze dagger, as well as an ancient Traldar surname. The PCs muxt research the name, pn;y to find that the Traldar name belonged to a royal family King Halav overthrew to become King. The dagger is a family heirloom with a devastating story - devastating to the Song of Halav. The son of the slain Traldar king was present during the battle between Halav and the beastmen king. What history has wrong, and what has been covered up all this time, is that Halav was mortally wounded during the battle and was on the verge of dying, leading to a beastmen victory. The Traldar son, however, leapt into the fray, armed with only a bronze dagger. He bravely dodged the beastmen's kings attacks, and stabbed the king through the heart, killing him. Halav's followers, including Zirchev and (I forget her name, his wife), took up the king's body and hailed him as a hero. The Traldar son was ignored and forgotten in history. The campaign will eventually lead between a power struggle between the various factions, mostly the Cult Of Halav and those wanting to keep the sevret of the famous battle secret. Not sure how it would end, although there may be a change in the power the rule of the land.
