Description:

Living Statues are a type of construct (see Golems, pages 108-110 of the Monster Manual) created to resemble normal, non-magical statues.  Contrary to their name, they are not "alive," but animated by magic.  They vary in appearance and material depending on the location and the culture of the region.  Living Statues appear to be normal in every way, and are often placed among several other "normal" statues of the same material and style to take advantage of this camouflage.   Because of this, most living statues are human-shaped and Medium-sized...just like most statues are.  The materials listed are only typical, the DM should feel free to create different types (possibly with different abilities).

Living Statues of monsters and animals are rare, but not unheard of...the stats given above are for medium, human-shaped statues.  It may be necessary to modify the attacks for statues that have claw and bite attacks (like a Living Statue of a lion) or the movement rates (for a Living Statue of a horse).

Construct: Living Statues are immune to mind-influencing magic and effects, and are immune to poison, sleep, paralysis, stunning, disease, death, and necromantic effects.  They are not subject to critical hits, ability damage, ability drain, or energy drain.  Further, they are immune to any effect that requires a Fortitude save (unless the effect also works on objects). Living Statues are not at risk of death from massive damage, but when reduced to 0 hit points or less, they are immediately destroyed.  These constructs have darkvision with a range of 60 feet.

Crystal:  A living crystal statue is a construct made of crystals instead of flesh.  The type and colour of crystals vary, though quartz is most common.

Iron: A living iron statue has a body that can absorb iron and steel.  It is usually human shaped, and weighs several tons.

Rock: A living rock statue has an outer crust of stone but is filled with hot magma (fiery lava).  The type of stone varies, but granite and marble are most common.

Combat:

Scatter Light (Ex): The crystalline body of a living crystal statue reflects and scatters light and light-based spells.  This gives the living statue a special kind of resistance against rays, beams, and similar attacks.  When attacked by these means, there is a 50% chance that the spell or effect will scatter and fizzle, effectively dispelling it.  Even if the spell or effect does not scatter, the statue gains a +4 bonus to any save throw against these attacks.

Absorb (Su): An iron living statue can absorb iron and steel into its body.  When hit with a metal weapon, the statue takes damage as normal, but the wielder of the weapon must make a Reflex save (DC=10 + the statue's HD) or the weapon will become stuck in the statue's body, and can only be removed if the statue is destroyed.  (If the weapon is left in the statue, the statue will eventually absorb the metal completely and eject non-metal parts, so the statue will not forever walk around with weapons sticking out of it.)  Magical weapons made of metal are allowed a bonus to the Reflex save equal to the level of enchantment (a +2 sword would get a +2 bonus to the Reflex save).

Lava Spray (Su): In combat, a living rock statue may spray lava from within its body through its fingertips (or similar appendages) at a single target instead of using its fists or a weapon.  This lava spray has a range of 15 feet.  Any creature hit by the spray takes 2d6 points of heat damage, halved by a successful Reflex save

(DC=10 + the statue's HD).
