Thoughts on Ilyoris

by Geoff Gander

The Morinna Peninsula is a fascinating-looking landform, and when we blew it up to 8 miles per hex I wanted to inject something interesting here for the region of Selhomarr people tend to pass by - you'll notice the road ends at a village called Ilandurion (literally, "born of the grove" - there is a lovely, but small, forest nearby that enthralled enough people to settle nearby).

I thought a lagoon protected from the ocean by a spit of sand would be an interesting feature to add - the real life inspiration for it is the Curonian Spit in the Baltic Sea - so that went in. The beaches really are quite nice here, but the shallow lagoon may conceal secrets of its own. The lagoon, and the neighbouring swamps, cut off the northern part of the peninsula from the rest of the empire, and this is how many of the locals (who speak their own odd dialect) like it.

The other thing I added, which I might not have had I not been as creative, is the isolated village of Ssathash. No roads go to it, and the locals are loath to say much about it if asked. In fact, you'll notice that all of the roads seem to *deliberately* ring it, almost like a wall.

Odd, that...

There is also an in-joke on this map, that pays homage to a popular horror movie. There are hints on the map. Let's just say there is a place that ought to be very pleasant, but isn't. At all.
