Magic Crockery
by Cab DavidsonBecause I quite enjoyed the teapots thing... New magic items for BECMI based around, well, stuff on the dining table.
Cup of brown joy: An ordinary looking teacup, usually accompanied by a saucer, which will turn any hot, aqueous liquid into it into a decent cup of tea. This invaluable item will work up to 6 times per day, and will even convert toxic liquids into drinkable ones.
Saucer, flying: An rare item that appears to be a plain saucer with a slight metallic sheen, upon recitation of a known command word it converts into a small, saucer shaped, flying shuttle, with a single seat in which a pilot can sit. It can be piloted at a speed of 360' (120') with a MF of 2, and in addition to its pilot and their equipment it can carry up to 5000cn of additional weight. A second command returns the flying saucer to a small saucer form, and any cargo carried at this time is ejected and scattered around.
Glass of the Sommelier: A surprisingly plain glass, this small tumbler is much prized by merchants and gastronomes. If a small volume of wine is poured into it, tasted, and spat out, the user of the glass is magically imbued with knowledge of where the wine was bottled, when, the grape variety or varieties, and any other salient knowledge ("Ahh, it was a bad year in Nouvelle Averoigne, it rained all summer, but the noble rot set in and made this surprisingly good dessert wine...").
Glass of Eavesdropping: An ordinary tumbler with the capacity to transmit sound extremely well. When the open side is placed on any way, sounds occurring on the other side thereof, to a distance of up to 10' away, can be heard perfectly by any character placing their ear on the base thereof. A glass of eavesdropping works up to 3 times per day.
Vase of Dramatic Intervention: Appearing as if a normal vase for containing flowers, and typically being painted with flowers, this item functions as an ordinary vase. When used in melee combat, no hit roll is needed to strike any foe whose head can be reached by the wielder. The vase breaks on the target (no saving throw), thus it can be used only once. If the victim is aware of the attack, they must make a save vs. death ray or be rendered unconscious for 1d6 turns. If they are unaware of the attack, such as if the attack is from behind or an enemy who would otherwise be considered defenceless, that saving throw is made with a -4 penalty to the roll.
Bowl, pudding: This cursed bowl of commanding water elementals will, on a roll of 1-3 on 1d4, function correctly to conjure a water elemental. On a roll of 4, the bowl instead creates a black pudding (using the normal monster stats), which immediately attacks the user, and which cannot be dismissed other than using a dispel magic targeting a 15th level spellcaster, or by destroying it in combat.
