Minrothad Forces "Operation Hydra"

Composition and placement of Minrothad forces at the time of Operation Hydra

1st Home Guard

1st Home Guard is placed at Trader Island. Its mounted infantry regiments are attached to the two cities' garrisons to keep the peace with the opening of shipping season. Cavalry regiments are dispersed throughout the countryside and are considered to be refitting until the beginning rush of traffic from start of shipping season subsides. Then they will be rejoined by mounted infantry troops on garrison duty to begin wargames.

1st and 2nd regiments are training with 3rd H.G. on Open Island. 3rd regiment is on Gapton undergoing a refit of equipment and personnel. 4th and 5th regiments are encamped outside Seahome. They had been training with the Verdun elves while their transports were getting refitted. With training finished, they are awaiting the transports to be finished.

3rd H.G. is a newly formed division. It is actually a combination of recruits for the H.G. and Minrothad Fleet. 1st through 4th regiments being slotted for HG while 5th and 6th are to be Marines in the Navy. Each regiment is deployed on various islands and are in training.

IMC the Mercenary Guild has taken Gapton and North Island as its base of operations. 1st Fleet primarily calls the port of Gapton Harbour its home port. Most of the Fleet can be found patrolling the waters around the island. All ships are on active patrol except Squadron 2 which is on shore leave from extended patrol duty. Squadrons 4 and 6 have been sent to Blackrock until a regular naval force is built up to operate out of the island's still under construction port facilities.

2nd Fleet calls no specific port its home port. The Mercenary Guild opts to rotate several individual squadrons to a different port every few months. This is to give each port/city a portion of the Fleet. Squadron 1 is on patrol off the coast of Harbortown. Squadron 2 currently anchored in Harbortown and is preparing to begin patrols within a day or so. Squadron 3 patrols the waters off Open Island. Squadron 4 patrols the waters south of Fire Island. Squadron 5 patrols Alfeisle Island, primarily off the coast of Seahome. Squadron 6 had been attached to a supply convoy bound for Blackrock. Supplies offloaded, the squadron is preparing to set a coarse for Seahome to be refitted. After refit and shore leave the squadron is supposed to escort the troops of 3rd HG/3rdReg. and 3rdHG/2ndReg. back to Gapton Harbour after training around Verdun is finished.

3rd Minrothad Fleet

Like 2nd Fleet the ships and crews of 3rd Fleet rotate their home ports. Squadrons 1 and 2 are on patrol off Minrothad City's coast. Within five days Squadron 2 is to assume the role by itself as Squadron 1 sets sail for Gapton Harbour. Squadron 3 and 4 are on patrol off Fortress Island. Squadron 5 is on patrol off the coast of Verdun. Squadron 6 is off the coast of Fire Island and is enroute from Gapton Harbour to Minrothad City bearing the Mercenary Guild's requests for expansion of Fleet.

The majority of the pirates are prowling the waters of the Sea of Dread. The have concentred their numbers along the sea lanes from Karameikos, Ierendi, Thyatis, and Darokin. Only 3rd and 5th Fleets are near Fire Island.


Garrison Defences- Defence of the Minrothad cities is not just the duty of the Home Guard and Fleet. The Mercenary Guild enacted moves last year to bolster defences from the cities' populace. It is hoped that this will inspire more of the youth to join the Mercenary Guild and give the HG and Fleet the basis for growth. Since these forces do not conform to the ones in PWA, weapons and arms are given

Cove Harbour Defences- Primary defence is through the Privateer Fleet. These forces are drawn from the populace. Though population is a cross section of pirate life and business I categorised them as F1 Inf. for simplicity sake. Since pirate tactics are more hand to hand, the emphasis is on hand melee weapons. Besides defending the walls, the Daggers are the ones that man the other island defences such as the barricade into Cove Harbour and small fort. This is usually done by the 4th Dagger of each division.

Gapton Defence Network- IMC North Island is the headquarters for the Mercenary Guild. As such it is the official home port for 1st Minrothad Fleet. At least half of the 1st Fleet is kept in port or within a days sail of the Island to keep a ready supply of frontline troops nearby. It also is home to regular troops as well as retired troops. The regular defence is provided by a trained militia. Officially Gapton Harbour is the duty of the naval forces. Gapton itself is the duty of the militia.

Blackrock Harbour- Small fishing village retreats to fortress overlooking port facilities. A recent addition to the Minrothad Armed Forces, it is small and still in the process of being built up both in defences and port facilities. Primary defence comes from the two squadrons of Minrothad navy vessels based here. Usually these naval units are off on patrol. Seeing a need, the Mercenary Guild dispatched troops from its militia force on Gapton. Troop rotation here is considered punishment and troop rotation is about every six months. Military base and naval port is not self sufficient. Supplies are brought in every other month.
