The Miser

by Marc Saindon

thinking of the Feywild and how it would interact with Rockhome... what do Dwarves dream of?

well, one idea is to create a male variant of the Hag, called a Miser.

Misers are what would happen to greedy dwarves who betray their communities for wealth, favoring greed over kinship.

Maybe that's what created the Rotdwarves in the first place with the pre-Rain of Fire dwarves.

Exposure to Unseelie energies and very anti-social behavior cuts off the dwarf from his magic resitance and becomes a "male hag" (using the appropriate stat block, so Swampy McSwamp the Swamp Dwarf becomes a "Green Miser" with Green Hag stats).

A Miser can draw other dwarves into their greedy corruption, and slowly transform into (Lesser) Misers (see the Hexblood lineage) as well, which would make them a bit more dangerous than the lone Modriswerg. Lesser Misers might be called "Toadies", and can evolve beyond his status by murdering his master and taking his place, although can scheme to kill him indirectly or can even inherit the status if the master dies by accident. If more than one Toadie exists at the moment of the death of the master, one might have to kill all the others to take his place.

Misers are naturally hated by Dwarves, although hunting them down can cause trouble, as the victorious adventuring party might find some sizeable treasure and become greedy about as the loot seeds in its corruption.

some ideas might be borrowed from the Nibelung or LOTR's One ring.
