Mogreth Timeline

by Geoff Gander

BC 2300: The Second Empire of Mogreth is at its height. This is the period covered by the Mogreth gazetteer thread, and is the last period of the Second Empire's greatness.

BC 2200-2000: A period of deepening political strife. While the Outer Being-centred Faith is still dominant, other faiths devoted to Mystaran Immortals - long hidden and persecuted - begin to emerge and spread throughout Mogreth. The slave population, which has risen sharply during this period, becomes increasingly restive as rumours of the empire's decline begin to spread. Revolts increase in frequency.

BC 2000: The Raismyr Glacier Wall bursts, unleashing a torrential flood which sweeps most of Mogreth into the sea. The Second Empire of Mogreth comes to an end. While most communities in Mogreth's heartland are completely destroyed, strongholds around the perimeter of the empire - such as Teshos and Ssugath - survive for several decades afterwards. The southern port of Theliir lasts a few centuries, due to its strategic position. Amid the chaos small communities of lizard men and troglodytes, as well as a handful of frogfolk, who do not follow the Outer Beings are transported away by Ka the Preserver. They are immediately placed in stasis by the other Hierarchs, who insist they are too dangerous to be allowed to exist in the Hollow World.

BC 1980: After long negotiations Ka secures the other Hierarchs' agreement to allow the survivors of Mogreth to be placed in the Hollow World, as long as they are placed far away from other cultures in case their darker tendencies resurface. At the same time, the Hierarchs are reluctant to let the transplanted Mogrethians be too isolated, lest they grow too powerful. Ixion hints that more consideration may be needed, and Ka annoys Him by pointing out that Selhomarr has been isolated on Suridal for millennia, which results in a compromise to place the Mogrethians in a large swamp to the northern part of the continent.

BC 1975: A few hundred lizard men, troglodytes, and frogfolk awaken from the chaos of Mogreth to find themselves on a large rise in an empty swamp that seems to stretch away in all directions forever, under a red sky with a sun that never sets...

BC 1700: Theliir succumbs to its enemies after the devastating geologic upheavals of BC 1750 damage its once-formidable fortifications beyond repair. With its destruction, the last traces of Mogreth vanish from the surface world and it passes into legend.
