Map of Port Tenobar
by Geoff GanderDefences would be somewhat well maintained due to the presence of the often-hostile Children of the Viper, in neighbouring Atruaghin, as well as lizard men to the northeast, pirates from Jaibul to the southwest, and random monsters.
Population-wise, it's probably a healthy mix. The original settlers would have been southern Darokinians related to the folk of Athenos and Elstrich, but without the Doulakki ("Greek") admixture of their eastern competitor - and then centuries of migration on top of that. There are probably a few friendly Atruaghin folk here, plus some lizardfolk, and probably even a few Sindhi from further west.
Of note, according to the maps, the Arbandrine River empties into the Sea of Dread to the north. The land around the town is fairly clear pastureland. Given the character of the place as described, someone may have tried urban planning in the past, but quickly gave up.
Work continues on the map; a version in full colour is coming soon.
The village to the north is a community of Renardois expatriates known as "La Petite Gueule" ("the little mouth" - named after the mouth of the river; although the locals pronounce it something like "Teet Yull"). It sprung up organically in gameplay and now we have a backstory for it, borrowing from Bruce's writeup years ago on Nouvelle Renardie. The people of Port Tenobar call it "the Loup", and go there to gamble, eat innovative cuisine, and conduct shady business they don't want their neighbours to know about. Given that Port Tenobar already has a shady reputation, this is quite something.
The town authorities don't quite know what to do about the Loup. On the one hand it provides an outlet for activities that would otherwise take place in town, but on the other hand if it were absorbed there could be added tax revenues. The lupins pay little regard to the town, unless they have something to sell. Otherwise, they live off the land, sell their services as guides, and keep a watchful eye on the gurrash tribes further to the northeast.
