The Clan Domain of Noslosford

by Jacob Skytte

Noslosford is located in the northern part of central Noslo Island in the Kingdom of Ostland. The domain is made up of three hexes of light forest, two clear hexes, one mountain hex, and one hex of woodland hills. The domain is rich, having fair farmland, a steady supply of wood, as well as some mining. It is not particularly metropolitan though, and foreigners will typically be taken as thralls. Any Ostlander is welcome here though. Clan Noslosford typically worked as mercenaries for Thyatis, and occasionally for other countries. These days no real raiding is done, the jarl dupes foreigners into paying him for unfinished business.

Head of Domain: Jarl Geirstein Thorgelson rules Noslosford. His great hall is Leirbotn.

Population: 7000 people make a living in Noslosford. Of these 2400 are thralls, 3000 are non-warrior freemen, and 1600 are warriors. 3000 people carry arms and will put up a spirited defence of their lands and life.

LEIRBOTN

A village of 480 people, Leirbotn (the camp boat) is located on a small stretch of the coast of Zea Bay, some 12 miles northwest of Zeaburg. The surrounding land is mostly farmland, and all sorts of luxuries (by Ostland standards) can be had here. The jarl is seldom at home though, often being on a raid, or inspecting the mine.

NORSTEDT

In the hills by Storm Bay lies a second large village called Norstedt. This settlement of 420 is where the Smith has his forge. The village has a large number of well-armed guards protecting the Smith and the weapon stores.

Geirstein Thorgelson

Neutral 14th level Fighter (Str 16, Int 12, Wis 11, Dex 13, Con 9, Cha 12, AC 1, hp 57)

Personality Traits: Cautious/Rash 14/6, Energetic/Lazy 13/7, Trusting/Suspicious 15/5, Loyal/Unreliable 7/13

49 years old, Grey hair and beard, Grey eyes

A veteran of numerous conflicts, Geirstein has made quite a name for himself as a mercenary fighting for various nations. He has recently begun exploiting this, demanding fees in advance then leaving the job unfinished and returning to his great hall. Four years ago he took a Rockhome dwarf as thrall, and after learning of his great skill made him his personal weapon smith. Geirstein has now begun to gather a large store of superior weapons for use in usurping the throne of Ostland. Though he likes king Hord, he likes king Geirstein better. Hord Dark-Eye is on to his plot though (see below).

When in battle Geirstein carries a chain mail, a shield+2 called "Stjerneskjold" (Starshield), and a normal sword (+2 to hit, +1 to damage).

Geirstein is married to Elsa the Seal (42), and has five children by her: Lot Geirsteinson (23), Bue Geirsteinson (21), Oda Elsasdottir (18), Lis Elsasdottir (16), and Hjort Geirsteinson (12). All of his family are aware of his plans.

Elsa the Seal (Neutral F2; Modest/Proud 6/14, Generous/Greedy 8/12, Forgiving/Vengeful 6/14) is (presumably) the fastest swimmer on all of Noslo Island. She misses no opportunity to proclaim this loudly and does not take well to anybody "smearing" her reputation. Nor do Geirstein or Lot...

Lot Geirsteinson (Neutral F5; Cautious/Rash 5/15, Peaceful/Violent 7/13, Courageous/Fearful 14/6, Forgiving/Vengeful 7/13) is a rash young warrior, who adores his parents, and can't wait for his father to become king of Ostland, leaving him next in line. He would prefer marching on Zeaburg tomorrow, but follows the orders of his father.

Oda Elsasdottir (Chaotic F2; Modest/Proud 5/15, Generous/Greedy 6/14, Honest/Deceitful 5/15) is betrothed to jarl Ragnar Solmundson of Vithesford. Her father hopes she will convince Ragnar to stand by him when he makes his move. Oda herself rather likes the idea of bending the aging Ragnar to her will and taking over the domain.

Lies Elsasdottir (Lawful T1; Cautious/Rash 17/3, Modest/Proud 18/2, Trusting/Suspicious 4/16) is the confidante of Bue and has learned to be very careful what she says or does around her family. Her father is attempting to betroth her to Mord the Greedy of Gotland similarly to what he did with her sister. Lis hopes that Bue rescues her before that happens.

Bue Geirsteinson

Lawful 4th level Fighter (Str 16, Int 12, Wis 13, Dex 11, Con 15, Cha 16, AC 4, hp 28)

Personality Traits: Cautious/Rash 14/6, Reverent/Godless 15/5, Honest/Deceitful 13/7, Loyal/Unreliable 14/6

21 years old, Blond hair, Blue eyes

Bue is the ideal Ostland warrior, strong of arm, fair of face, and hardy of spirit. He is a strong believer in Odin, the kingmaker. In the beginning of his father's plotting, he figured it Odin's will that his father would be the next king of Ostland, but having been sent to the Court of Cnute, he came to realise that Hord Dark-Eye is Odin's chosen. He then approached King Hord, telling him of his father's plans. Hord's initial reaction was to pay Geirstein a visit (along with a few hundred warriors), but Asgrim the Bowed convinced him that a subtler approach might be better. Hord has graciously allowed Bue to resolve the situation within the next year, thus saving his family's name and honour. Bue has not yet decided what he can do, but he has turned to Asgrim the Bowed for advice...

In battle Bue wears a scale mail+1 and a shield and wields a war hammer (+2 to hit, +1 to damage).

Bue has not yet married; he is too absorbed with the worries of plotting his father's downfall, while keeping up appearances. He is very close to his sister Lis though, and is trying to figure a way to get her out of Geirstein's grasp.

The Smith

Chaotic 8th level Dwarf (Str 15, Int 10, Wis 12, Dex 15, Con 14, Cha 12, AC 8, hp 45)

Personality Traits: Modest/Proud 4/16, Generous/Greedy 5/15, Energetic/Lazy 16/4, Trusting/Suspicious 6/14

176 years old, White hair and beard, Pale blue eyes

Geirstein took Oic, son of Filed, thrall four years ago. Geirstein soon regretted hauling the sour dwarf around and threatened to throw him overboard. Oic did still value his life and started talking as if his life depended on it (it did). When Geirstein learned that Oic was an accomplished smith, he decided that he might just keep Oic alive a while longer. Geirstein had recently begun mining the mountains of his domain, but he sorely lacked skilled smiths. Oic proved his worth and was appointed foreman and master smith of Norstedt.

Though Oic would like to go home, he is at all times surrounded by Geirstein's trusted followers, and has learned to live under these conditions. He has even managed convincing Geirstein to pay him for his work. Oic's weapons are of excellent quality (+2 to hit, +1 damage), but his armours are of normal quality. Oic wields a hand axe (+2 to hit, +1 to damage) that Geirstein has allowed him to keep for personal protection.

Whatever family Oic had is far away and he prefers not to think of them.
