Oggles : Rockhome lizards

by Marc Saindon

While I'd like to see Dwarves riding huge goats or boars, the Rockhome Lizard is interesting.

Perhaps a few modifications, with first taking the norwegian word for lizard (øgle) and anglicizing it to "oggle" in form, to give them a name a bit more fantasy than "lizard".

The second is to replace their weakness to sunlight to a vulnerability to cold. So while they can venture outside in direct sunlight, they get lethargic or even die in prolonged exposure to cold. So they stay below ground, where the temperature is cool, but bearable. And they would attracted to Dwarf activities, such as heat-generating forges and smelters, allowing Dwarves some ease to domesticate them, especially as the lizards also double as pest controllers.

Rockhome Lizard part 2: Importing QFG2's Saurus mounts into Ylaruam

In a previous post, I toggle with the idea of replacing the Rockhome Lizard's vulnerability to light with a weakness to cold ("Oggles" who serve as mounts and pets for Dwarves in my fanon).

Another idea would be to have a limited presence of these Oggles in Ylaruam, mainly in the Makistani region near Rockhome (where they're called "Kertenkele" in local, turkic-like, dialect). This is a bit to pay hommage to a long-time favorite Sierra game, Quest for Glory 2, where Saurus serve as reptilian replacement for camels in the 1,001 nights city of Shapeir. Also to make Ylaruam a more high fantasy setting, and to give the Emirate of Makistan some distinction from the rest of the Ylaruam, due to their commercial contacts with Dwarves.

Perhaps limiting their spread in the rest of Ylaruam is their size (which limits the burden they can carry, notably as humans are bigger than Dwarves) and the well-established love of Ylari people for their pure bred horses, as well as camels (who carry greater burdens).
