Here is a taste of some of the organizations that have sprung up in or around Othrong. Of course this is all just spitballing and subject to change at this point. Any other ideas?
Realm of Othrong: Organizations
by John CalvinThe Realm of Othrong now sits where Faerdinel once lay, stretching from the Streel along the eastern border of Malpheggi to the Cruth River in the east (this description may change as I revisit the BC 1000 map, but roughly the area of the Five Shires). Beneath the Cruth Mountains the realm extends into the Shadowdeep, laying claim to several ancient ruins left behind by the Inti. Othrong and his apprentices rule over the land as arcane warlords, each claiming a region of former Faerdinel as their own.
Othrong rules the land from Shadaur, but spends most of his time deciphering arcane objects and building the Pit of Blue Flames.
Free Faerdinel
The remnants of the newly shattered nation of Faerdinel. While many hin have been enslaved by the humanoids, a small portion remain at large as freedom fighters. They have had middling success at keeping some of the coastal settlements free from humanoid depredations, but unless their circumstances change time may be drawing close for the brave warriors of Free Faerdinel. Malpheggi lizardfolk have begun encroaching from the west, closing those ports and making travel along the shipping lanes harder, and Hutaaka and Nithian support is non-existent with the gnollish uprising. For now the group is frantically trying to funnel as many hin survivors from the heartlands to safe havens on the sundered islands of shattered Taymora.
Cult of Dark Fire
Based on translations of ancient texts imported from Nithia and Malpheggi (actually carnifex inscriptions), the cult sprang up around a belief in a special magical energy found only in the area around Faerdinel. So far they have not been able to harness the power fully, but some of their most powerful sorcerers (including Othrong) have begun to tap it.The leaders of the Cult are all apprentices of Othrong, and act as arcane warlords to suppress the local populations of hin. Those hin lucky enough to escape cult sacrifices and experimentation, are put to work in labor camps or sold to foriegn slave markets across the known world and beyond.
Spawn of Isshkarath
An isolated and relatively unknown sect of lizardfolk within Malpheggi swamp, the Spawn of Isshkarath have kept the idea of Mogreth alive for nearly 1000 years. In Othrong they see a chance to revitalize their dying faith, and have been instrumental in supplying the humanoids with blasphemous, and often vile, texts passed down from Mogreth.Although a small group, they have great influence in the southeast regions of Malpheggi, and have been manipulating merchants and traders in the area for decades. Many are also junior members of the Cult of Dark Fire, and have control over the local slaver groups.
