Phanatons of the Southern Forest
by WingofCootAbout 40,000 phanatons live throughout the eastern and central regions of the Southern Forest, in hundreds of tiny semipermanent canopy villages. Their lifestyle and technology is Stone Age, essentially Mesolithic - hunter-gatherers developing some sedentary settlements.
About 400 years ago, Terra brought a small tribe of phanatons fleeing from a powerful green dragon in the Thanegioth Archipelago to her Flatworld. They arrived in the eastern river valley of the Southern Forest.
Over the next few decades, two more phanaton tribes were transferred to the Flatworld, one arriving in the same area and one in the central river valley of the Forest.
Initially, they faced few dangers and expanded rapidly, from an initial few hundred to many thousands, building canopy villages through most of the Southern Forest.
About 100 years ago, they began to encounter green dragons and wyverns in the western reaches of the Forest, which slowed down their expansion dramatically.
