"SarbArcanist" (Blowgun Arcane Archer variant)

by Marc Saindon

To populate the Southeast Tangorian jungles, which perhaps have a thinner veil between Mystara and the Good Kingdom (the Feywild, which might be called the Dreaming Land by Tangorans), a number of humanoid tribes live as hunter and gatherers, nominally pledging allegiance to the Empire (if even contacted with the rest of the world), although still prone to raiding or expelling perceived intruders by force. A few tribesmen, exposed to fae energies, develop minor magical abilities (not enough to get them to the Tangor's Well of Wisdom for schooling as Wizards, but still qualifying as Sorcerers or demi-casters like the Arcane Archer).

Because of the humidity of the jungle takes a toll on bowstrings, the humanoids prefer javelins, slings, spears, and of course, the blowgun. Rather than just concentrate on curare poisoning, magically-inclined blowgun users (which I call "SarbArcanists", derived from the French word "sarbacane" for blowgun until something better is figured out) use their extensive knowledge of herbalism, some rudimentary alchemy and a dash of their magic to produce darts with special effects like the Arcane Archer.
